I don't think Miles would leave now anyway, but for only 2.5 million a year? That'd be a pay decrease (if he wins NC) from a school more nationally recognized than LSU. Pathetic.

I think the damage has already been done.
Miles, I think, realizes that to keep his love for Michigan he won't be able to coach there.
Taking the job under these circumstances could cause that relationship to sour more than it already has.

Would Miles accept a $1 million pay cut (assuming he wins the BCS), being hamstrung with assistants he doesn't get to pick, etc. just to go to Michigan. I doubt it. He may love Michigan, but I don't think that it makes sense to accept that kind of deal, especially since Martin has reportedly said he would go up to 3 million. Sounds like Michigan is still low-balling Miles.
So the question is: Is such an offer, if it exists, just window dressing to satisfy the angry and vociferous Miles' faction of Michigan alums, knowing that he isn't likely to accept?

The anti-Miles faction in the AD is pushing Brady Hoke heavily.
and 2.5 mil is yet another low ball offer by UM

I thought that might be the case at first, but when your other candidate is Brady Hoke I think not.

I think it's a token offer by Bill Martin so that he can claim he made a concrete offer to Miles but was turned down.
Hell, it's a pay decrease *now* because of the terms of his current contract dealing with an SEC Title win.
(I think he's entitled to $2.6 million a year at the least, depending on which interpretation of Tuberville's salary you use for the "3rd-highest paid coach in the SEC" comparison.
The only reason we haven't raised his pay yet is that we're waiting on the BCS Championship Game to determine if he's due another raise.)

If Miles can get the job and get rid of his detractors this may not be over.
But, you think LSU felt jilted by Saban, Miles would be vilified even more particularly if he does something like this before the biggest game of his career

After what has transpired with Miles I don't really know what to think. It wold be awesome if they land him.

For you maybe...NOT for us...
This thing needs to be put to bed one way or another...we have a NC game to play and really don't need the added distractions!

what got my eye was the President was involved.
now if I want Miles to stay, that would have me worried a little.

From a Michigan premium board, they say their sources indicate no offer has been made but the Miles Camp is optimistic.

If Miles makes this jump now, he will surely surpass Nick as the most vile human excrement by the media and fan barrage that is sure to ensue.
may want him to do it but I think Les is more
than that.

You don't want him to stay?

not really. Don't want to run him off either. Some coaches I'd fight to keep. He's just not one of them.
Posted on 12/10/07 at 12:18 pm to prplhze2000
Who do you want to replace him?
Posted on 12/10/07 at 12:18 pm to Rocket

It's got to be the admin trying to save face.
I think they know they screwed Miles over and I think they realize it's done. But at least if they reach out one more time, it gets them off the firing line

until BM is FIRED it will not be over, he has screwed up so bad it's time to go, as much of a football school as michigan is he has neglected most of the other programs in what they need as well, though i would like miles hired, brian kelley would make a great coach as well and wouldn't cost us the bank...
