Shotgun Recommendations

I'm slowly building my arsenal. Purchased a Remington 700 rifle for deer hunting last year, then recently picked up a S&W M&P 9mm compact.
I'm now looking at getting a shotgun primarily for hunting opportunities but also for home defense. Looking for something pump action in the $500 or less range as I don't see myself bird hunting too often. Any recommendations?
How are these for value and quality?
Remington 870 Express
Winchester Super X

700... despite the gurus calling it a crap gun.
Accurate and priced low.

870. Dang near indestructible. Very reliable.

You also can't go wrong with a benelli nova or supernova. And they are around your price range

If I were to have one shotgun I would make it a Mossberg 500 Flex. Buy one set up for home defense. Then if you ever go decide to do some waterfowl hunting buy the 28" ported vent rib barrel with accu-choke.

Don't think you can go wrong with either gun. The Winchester's were having some problems slam firing in the 3 1/2" models, but they put out a recall and I believe they have worked out the problem. The nova is a pretty good gun for that same price point and have a cool look to them. That being said, I'm not sure any gun cabinet is complete without a Remington 870.

Winchester SX3 - reliable, and the action is probably the slickest of any current pump.
870 is just more common.

870 Remington. Parts if ever needed are easy to find and get you an assault barrel.

Agreed. I have an 870 and love it. Theres a reason theyve been around since the dinosaurs, but I looked at the Benelli the other day and that is one sweet gun.

Go Benelli. No need to have a Rustington.
