Especially with a truck (long wheel base vehicle), it is much easier to back into a spot than to pull in. Also it is safer to pull out of a spot forward than backing up

I understand doing it at some jammed concert/athletic parking lot where you want to make a break for it after. But, backing in your rig at the gym seems

no idea what the answer to your question is, but we are required to do it when driving company vehicles.

We have to do it with trucks, or put a cone behind it to prevent backing accidents as well.

I am talking personal vehicles tho, its a statistically significant difference by race who do this. Not saying I'm correct in not backing in.

It is for safety purposes, we have the same "mandate" at my office as well.

I don't mind it at all, one of my jobs during college was a valet at a major hospital where you have to park like this.

The reason this came up, is because at the hospital here, they recently put up a sign that said NO BACKING in to parking spots....oddly enough

Are the parking spots angled? If not the hospital is wrong.

Sounds like racist motives to me.

I am not 100%, wife reported from the field. I'll get back to you.

Backing into an angled spot is asinine. Unless its a reverse angle spot, which are great.

You don't spend $20 on stick-on chrome-painted side vents to have them wasted by pulling in to your parking spot.

When backing into a spot it take ~1 sec to leave a space, if pulled in forwards it takes ~5 seconds. If you have 50 cars in a lot you could clear it in ~1:00 in an emergency if everyone is backed in. It would take ~5:00 for the same lot in an emergency situation. Every company I have ever worked for required employees to back into parking spots due to this.

My wife has always criticized me for backing into a spot away from work. Until a year or two ago we were inside of the Target in Monroe when there was a bomb threat. I was on the service road readying to merge onto I-20 before half of those stay at home wife/moms had backed their yukons and suburbans up to get out. It was a complete clusterfrick. I told my wife she better learn to back up because had the threat been an actual bomb and not a disgruntled employee IIRC, she would have most likely have been stuck in that clusterfrick.

Like everyone said already, it's safer. My dad taught me to back in, for the convenience of leaving.

I am genuinely curious, why?

You obviously dont drive a full size vehicle. Some of these parking lots are damn near impossible to pull straight in. Much easier to back in.

Why not?

Because you are impeding the flow of traffic. I hate ppl who back into parking spots.

I want to get out my VW Passat and drag the baws out their F-250s then drag them through the parking lot.

Damn back up baws.

I disagree. My 2 vehicles are a F150 and Passat for work.

Never is there a situation where I need to back my damn truck it. Yes in some cases it might be a little easier but i can pull in with a few moves.

Stop annoying ppl by backing in.
