I know this is a dead subject, but.....

I was not that into recruiting at that time....I have read about, I guess the battle LSU had over him?....

I just saw he was #32 on the Rivals top 100 of 2003.....Was he that good in High School?

Ballz, Ballz, Ballz. Hester type of player. Not used properly at Ole Miss.

Hester?

He played QB for Neville and was a stud.

And you say that I don't have a clue?

He ran the other way when he got wind of Jamarcus coming to LSU.

Saw him play a couple of times. He was a big, strong physical guy who could run. Not a very good pure passer, but had very good arm strength. Honestly, if the Tebow type offense would have been in vogue a few years earlier, he might have stayed at QB and who knows?

He was coming to LSU to play QB until Jamarcus signed. He wouldn't commit to not taking a pro baseball contract so Saban went after Russell. He never turned Lane away, Lane just decided to go to Ole Miss when LSU decided they needed to make sure they recruited a QB that was going to be here.

We recruited him very hard. He committed and was ready to come until we also signed some QB named Jamarcus Russell, causing him to promptly decommit.

Robert Lane had similar build, speed, and ability on the football field. He, like Hester, played many different positions at Ole Miss.

By the way Lane was never a true qb. There is your answer. But he was tough. Ever saw him play in H.S.?

Well we know Ole Piss was the wrong move for him!! I really kind of feel sorry for Lane. He was a very talented player.

Robert was great as a Junior QB but never quite made the next step forward in his developement as a senior, especially in his throwing ability... he was horrible at reading a defense when in the pocket...

That is when I start to second guess if he could be great at the next level at QB ...he would have made any team in the country a fantastic Safety... he played Safety at Neville as a freshman and was a one-man wrecking crew back there and Coach Coates even told me that he was one of the best Safetys he had ever seen when the kid was only 16...

Too bad for him that he struggled and moved to TE where he had to gain weight...

He is a more athletic Craig Steltz and had a chance to be that type of Saefty had he played defense in college...

I know the coaching at Ole Miss wasn't the best (although he did have Cutcliffe, who isnt' a bad QB coach)...but all you need to know about Robert Lane as a QB is that he couldn't win the starting job at OLE MISS.

case closed..LSU did the right thing by not backing off of Jamarcus. Think about how pissed off LSU fans would've been if Jamarcus went to star at Auburn and we're stuck with an overrated fullback playing QB.
