You need to look up LSUs passing ypg national ranking during miles tenure.

Yep, he was very solid in the game against Florida, making some really nice throws. I don't remember when his injury occurred against Alabama but his presnap read on his TD pass to Dural was a thing of beauty.
The Bama secondary was in a 2 deep safety look. Harris somehow picked up a key presnap that the corner lined up over Dural in the slot would be blitzing on the play. That meant the safety shaded to that side of the field would have Dural one on one. That's a matchup that favored the Tigers especially since Travin was running a go route with a free release & the safety would be flat footed having to pick him up. Brandon made the right read & it resulted in an easy pitch & catch TD pass. In the gif, you can see #5 blitzing off the edge. Had Bama stayed in the presnap 2 high safety look, this throw wouldn't have been possible & is probably picked off.

He needs to be able to do that more on a consistent basis which he should because this is the type of read that comes with game experience.

I agree to a certain point. I believe the defense, offense, and special teams all share equal blame in our lack of success in the last few years. Cant defend the run against power run teams, cant pass (with any consistency) against a stiff run defense, and kick coverage has been terrible at times. LSU hasn't had a "total package" on the field in a while.

You have the right idea. The offensive scheme is built around a dominating defense. However, if the defense is anything but dominant, the offense is typically unable to pick up the slack. We can't generate a passing game, we have issues playing from behind, we are too predictable, and special teams has become a major issue. While you are correct that the offense is designed with a dominant defense in mind, the overall ineptness of the offense, especially the passing game, is inexcusable. Our saving grace has been #7.

If you think back to 2011 our offense was abysmal. The fact that our defense and special teams were so good masked our offensive short comings.
The offense was not abysmal in 2011 outside of the 2 games against Bama and the first half in the SEC championship game. That offense was a perfect fit for the defense and the special teams they had that season. They ran it great, didn't turn the ball over, and had 2 quarterbacks that made plays when needed to a couple times a game. Did they benefit from the defense and special teams? Of course but their is something to be said about having an above 70 percent touchdown rate in the red zone. When they had scoring opportunities they took advantage of it.

TTU was #2 last year, yippeeeee.

Someone mentioned the red zone efficiency of 2011. That was the glaring difference between 2011 and other years. When we got in the red zone, we were scoring a TD. I think our red zone TD% was something close to 90% that year. Couple that with out of this world special teams play (I think the punt return against average against us that year was less than 1 yard and for a large portion of the season was actually a negative number) and a turnover margin that was through the roof, and add in one of the greatest years that a single Tiger ever had on either side of the ball from Mathieu, and boom, unbeaten season. When you look at the SEC competition that year, though, where were the challenges outside of Bama and Arkansas? The SEC, especially the West, was not where it has been since 2012. Add in that Florida was down, and we played a down Tennessee and Kentucky that year, and there you go.
Our offensive challenges were on full display in the last three games of the year when we played defenses with a pulse. But, Mathieu put us on his back in both the Arky and Georgia games to an extent I've never seen from a single player. Bama just decided that they weren't going to let him to do that to them in the title game, and no one stepped up to fill that void. Without that against a defense like that, we were toast.

It's definitely the offense. Since 2009 we've lost 15 games.
12 of those losses came when the offense was shutdown and held to less than 25 points.
Sure we'll get into defensive slugfests, but Clemson and Ole Miss put up 40 on Alabama. We should not have a problem with 25.
So we can blame the defense somewhat for Notre Dame and MS State (2014) and Georgia (2013), but I have a hard time putting the blame anywhere but squarely on the offenses shoulders when we put up 14, 16, 17, 6, 16.. etc.

any way you slice it, all 3 of the teams need to be at a high level to win the SEC west. our defense was horrible at times last year and our special teams were horrible until the last few games (coverage and punting). our offense actually overcame that in the early part of the season but pretty much died against bama, ole miss and Arkansas. I can assure you that our offense was indeed the main problem at times even when we won the game. our offense against the aggies was pathetic. we should have crushed them; harris couldn't even hit the field the barn was located in.

Um, no. The offense wasn't flashy but they beat on everybody hard enough to make them want to quit in the 4th, if not earlier. Bama was the *only* defense in the country that kept coming back for more, which makes sense given that it was also the only D in the country that was as talented as LSU that year.

please, not that excuse again.
The reason our offense played worse beginning with the Bama game is because that's when OUR SCHEDULE GOT HARDER. Bama, Ole Miss, and Arky were our 3 toughest games.
The first 7 games were against weaker teams (yes, Auburn and Florida weren't good last year).
Posted on 7/5/16 at 4:33 pm to atltiger6487
Those teams knew LSU was one dimensional and wanted to run the ball, especially Saban. The passing offense must come alive this season or else.

I have a bigger concern with the D for a number of reasons. It is mostly because of the starting from scratch in everything. If Aranda gets it installed and we have the players to do the job I will be much relieved. Everything is just so new. Getting Valentine back will help also.

Seriously?
Stupid post of the year award.
Are you related to Les Miles? There is an eerily similar lack of thought in your post as there is in Les' offensive philosophy.

To be fair to Miles, when he has had a good QB he has used him efficiently. Mettenberger was quite efficient in 2012 and very good in 2013. Those years he had a defense that let him down. If Welter was not biting on Bo Wallace's fakes in 2013 we win the Ole Miss game . In 2012 If chief does not go prevent and keeps the heat on McCarron, the dude would have had a real reason to cry after the game.

Well Yes that's it. I tried to up vote twice even though I knew it wouldn't work.

Yes, because sports hernia doesn't effect an athletes core which would effect a QBs ability to throw accurately.
