Was trying to find stats. How many starts and innings did he pitch that year prior to his GOAT performance in Omaha?

I can't really quote stats or anything but...
if my memory is correct he was not a huge contributor in 1993 before the CWS performance.
Before I get chewed out I could be wrong but that seems to be what I remember. Kind of came out of nowhere at that stage is my recollection.
ETA: Obviously I was thinking of someone else. Clearly was great as a freshman. Ole man memory dammit

He had a good season, but the start before that in Omaha was bad. A&M roughed him up, but LSU made a comeback punctuated by Walker's Grand Slam.

My best recollection he ended up 12-1 with a 1.98 era.

Took a couple lessons from him in high school. One of the coolest former tigers I've met. Whe he would talk about that CWS game it came across like he was more amazed than any fan watching it.

I'd be int'd to know that as well. My dad and I were painting a room in the house or some shite for my mom. There was predictably a stadium filled w/LSU fans, and I remember the cheers getting progressively louder each time another Shocker proved his team's moniker to be the perfect misnomer. In shocked disbelief, laxton sent one after another on a walk of shame after a set of perfect offerings were proven perfectly bewildering. What else could they have been but shocked - no one is supposed to have THAT kinda control, and as dad and I traded in paint brushes for cold ones, we quickly put visuals with what we'd been hearing - the result of a pitcher that got into that room containing the "perfect" zone - the zone the comes with allowing a pitcher to throw a baseball EXACTLY where he wants, at barying speeds. Few - even the best of the best - ever darken to the door of that room. That day, it looked to us like Laxton Kicked it down. I don't ever remember any pitcher at any level having the command displayed by an LSU freshmen (I think : correct me on that if I'm wrong) that day.
Someone tell me, has that game gotten "better" over time? Y'all know how many he struck out? I swear / this can be right, but the way I remember it it was closer to damn near 20. No way that's right huh?

Laxton was amazing that season as a freshman. He never had another season like it. As Lange struggled early this season after a freshman season like Laxton had, I was wondering if we would see the same from Lange. He did regain much of his old form in the second half of the season, but is giving up to many homers.

If I recall correctly, he was the Sunday starter most if not all of the year, and I believe those games were all 7 innings. I forget if it was because back then they would play a Saturday game and then a Sunday doubleheader, so the later Sunday game was shortened. I remember going into the CWS him being critiqued for not going over 7 innings during the season and thinking to myself that was asinine because of the situation.

In 1993 everyone played the saturday double header, and Brett always pitched the second game of the day which was always a 7 inning game. He was very good though out the season. Several people posted his stats earlier in the thread, which can be found at lsusports.net.

12-1 with a sub 2 era in that era of baseball was pretty damn amazing.
Lloyd Peever was like 14-0 with a sub 2 era the year before also.

Yes, Laxton threw game 2 of the SEC series, which was the 7 inning game. In a game vs Ole Miss, he has a complete game gem against Ole Miss in which he threw a total of something like 88 pitches. About 83 of those were fastballs. Quite impressive to have a low 90s exploding fastball with location.

i stand corrected on my post of Brett pitching game 3, as there were no Friday games back then. It was game 2 of the series.

Weren't the series always 2 on Saturday, and one on Sunday? The games on Friday didn't start until the three day series (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) began.

Now that I think about it i believe you are right. 2 on Saturday and the final game on Sunday. No Friday game.
