Best Looking Games of All Time

And I don't mean highest res textures or the most polygons being pushed, though that can be included too. I'm just talking about games you either thought looked great at release or still think look great today.
Sonic the Hedgehog - I don't think the original Sonic holds up well in gameplay but I still think it's a great looking classic game. Its first stage in particular has such a unique look with the checkerboard pattern, the polygon-esque landscaping and nice paralax scrolling.

Donkey Kong Country games had great graphics

Wind Waker has to be up there. Go run the original on an emulator at 1080p with AA and it looks amazing. The HD remake didn't need any of the flash they added. It just needed better resolution and AA. The original graphics were great.
Also going to mention Metroid Prime. Exploring the mysterious worlds in the Metroid universe in 3D was mind blowing at the time and I still regard that game as one of the best of all time.

This game was pretty bad,but The Order 1886 looked good.
Until Dawn was great, but basically a movie.
Blood borne wins for me with best graphics plus gameplay.

Uncharted 2-4 have some of the best scenery I have ever seen in a game(s). Granted I am not the biggest gamer on the planet either.

Wind Waker is a good call.
Super Mario Galaxy is just plain brilliant looking:

Soul Calibur on Dreamcast was absolutely jaw dropping at the time. It was the first game that looked BETTER than the arcade.

Uncharted 4 and witcher 3 are the two best looking to date IMO

So many I could pick so I went with a random one

I always liked the way Street Fighter Alpha 3 looked as well.

I hate being the old guy in the room, but Dragon's Lair was stunning in arcades (these were places where teenagers used to go to play "coin operated" video games):
1983. No shite.

Super Mario 64 looks nearly as good as the Mario games they make today. Maybe that says more about Nintendo though ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

I'll be on the receiving end of some vitriol for this one, but Skyrim absolutely blew me away when I popped the disc in on 11.11.11. On PS3. I didn't get to experience the wonder of mods on PC until much much later. But I'll never forget those first few hours staying up way too late.

I'm currently playing Windwaker HD on Wii U and damn, that is a great looking game. The gamecube version still looks good IMO.
