Sporting News- "If you don't appreciate Lebron James you hate sports"
I feel sorry for the basketball fans that can't help but hate Lebron. If you're around my age or younger (25), which I would imagine is over half the board, then Lebron is undoubtedly the best basketball player you've ever truly watched. We're a little too young to actually remember MJ and appreciate it in the moment. He came to the league with all the hype in the world, exceeded it somehow. He's never gotten into trouble off the court, in fact he's done some remarkable charity work particularly with the youth in Akron. He's a phenomenal talent, an athletic prodigy that we likely won't ever see again. And he's disproven all the knocks one ever could have on him by dominating NBA finals and winning titles. Even the biggest Lebron hater would have a tough time justifying leaving him out of their all time top 5 NBA player list, and the list is void if he isn't top ten.
Yet despite all that, people still love to find every moment and play possible to critique him. "2-4 in the finals", seems to be the biggest knock on him. Yes, he's knocked for making the NBA finals. (One of those losses was last year where he was the best player on the court and took an all time team to 6 despite missing the 2nd and 3rd best player on the team. Another was as a young kid playing next to boobie fricking Gibson against San Antonio.). I don't understand how you can be a fan of the game of basketball, yet constantly move the goalposts in order to try to knockdown the best player you've seen play it.
quote:
Once-in-a-lifetime excellence, because that's unequivocally what James has displayed for 13 years in the NBA, is appealing to the masses, but to many, for whatever reason, it's appalling.
quote:
it's OK to just sit to back and appreciate James' greatness, particularly if you're a fan of the game of basketball, for its uniqueness. The next guy you'll have to hate on probably won't even be as good.

I feel sorry for all of you constantly trying to justify your hero.

i'm over any sort of discussion about LBJ and MJ
but he is unquestionably a top 3 NBA player of all time
moving forward, he is THE example of how to handle phenom success in a major professional league. there hasn't been a sports phenom who has handled the success at this level since Kareem, and he had many built-in advantages (college, a much less popular NBA, etc)
he's also just a unique freak of athleticism and skill. we may never see a player who has his complete game ever again
hating on Lebron is kind of like the modern SJW movement. you have to REALLY look hard for perceived problems

Still Jordan, hands down. And I don't hate Lebron.

I would kick LeBitch's arse if we met on the street

He's so fricking good and seems like he's a good person off the court. Family man, never any scandals, teammates like him, etc.
I get why people don't like him for his team hopping years back, but I can't understand people "hating him".
I feel privileged we get to watch him.

You can appreciate James and still think he's a petulant, passive aggressive little bitch.

People just like to argue. Thanks to technology now everyone can express their opinion to the masses.

He's incredible. Second best baller in history, and he is going to bring a title to Cleveland in a few weeks. Pretty big deal.

i treasure the bron, i just don't think he is tGOAT

Hated him for switching to the heat and the drama he caused. Now I hope he gets a title with the cavs unless they play the pelicans in the near future which won't happen

The constant need to justify him as the goat or one of the goat's by his fanboys is why people dislike him. shite gets old and tiresome.

Ah, the old "If you [do/do not] [blank], then [HYPERBOLIC STATEMENT!]"
That's the worst argument. People's preferences are based on a lot of factors you can't paint with such a broad brush, it actually seems quite desperate for attention and agreement.
Heck, it's like our political environment. Thanks for dumbing down the discussion.

I agree with all of your post except this. Also, you could have just posted he entire article instead of saying basically the same thing yourself. I also don't feel like bron gets as much hate since he left Miami now.
