Yes unless the laws have changed, but you can't be more than two years older than the 17 year old. 18 year olds are fair game.

False. 17 is age of consent in Louisiana. The two year rule only applies if one of the persons is under 17, i.e. the oldest is 16 but 25 months older than the younger.
The reason this is a crime is because a teacher is considered a position of authority and can't engage in sexual relations with a high school student regardless of age.
