eliminating Class C seems reasonable. Class C baseball and softball has become a complete joke. Some of these rural schools can barely field a team

They like sending 4 teams to their respective baseball and basketball state tournaments and getting their games on TV however...

Chalmette, it is apparent that you and I have 2 different opinions. Nothing I can say will change your mind and nothing you can say will change my mind. I'd venture to say that is the mind set of most of the principals in the state. I'd hate to see class b and c combine or even go away because of the rich athletic history they have. I do not think the hybrid has a chance because of the metro/rural aspect.

Just curious, what's the negative of B&C combining? Do you realize how far some of these rural schools are traveling for district games?

The rural schools travel similar distances as other schools in all classifications.

what they should do is change back one class at a time... i really only care if 5A is together.

One proposal that I really like has all school classified into 5 classes. 5A-1A. That is approximately 73 schools in each class. Then when it gets to playoffs it splits into select vs non select. I just hate that it does away with b and c. I'm not sure if this will be on the agenda for the special session on June 8 but I'm pretty sure it will be up in January.

honestly i'm not sure what is the need for B... those schools are the same size as 1A. does having football vs. not having football make such a big difference in the rest of an athletic program?

There is no reason for B and C. None. We don't need two different non football small classes.

Maybe it made sense years ago.

Any plan that has one rule for regular season and another for playoffs is very stupid.

Either split or don't split. All games, all sports.

Thanks I had not seen a date set. Will be interesting. I'm predicting no changes will be approved.

i want 2A to have their split if they want it... but we will play our rivalry with Holy Cross whether it's legal or not, whether they leave to a different league or not.

I want to see both teams on the field with their fans there, and then Norman Booker or Jane Griffin run onto the field and cause a scene and be like "NOOOO! YOU WILL NOT PLAY!"

I don't get this. What benefit will be gained by combining B and C?? None, it does not make any sense. There is nothing to fix here. Class B was formed in 1939 and Class C was formed in 1949. It does not hurt anything to have small schools compete against each other in sports in B and C. Both Class B and Class C have their own history in Louisiana. Karl Malone played at a Class C school. Greg Procell played at a Class C school. Procell was the leading all-time scorer in high school basketball in the United States. He scored 6,702 points in his high school career not including his 8th grade stats. He scored over 100 points in one game. His senior year Procell averaged 47.6 points per game against the big schools. He had 57 in a 104-91 victory over defending Class AAA state champion Woodlawn (Shreveport) as the Rebels defeated defending state champs in three of the four higher classes – Woodlawn, Haughton in Class A and Florien in Class B.

i heard it's the go-to whenever small public schools feel like their interests are threatened... just float the idea of B and C combining and those schools will always vote with them...

but if consolidation keeps happening in North LA, B and C's days are numbered

I promise you, neither of those people give any more of a shite about who some school in NOLA plays in the regular season than you do about who a rural school in North Louisiana plays.

it's cause and effect...

split the LHSAA -----> private and Catholic schools leave and go to a new organization ------> formerly legal games now become illegal

they have to know that will occur

you're right though. i don't give a shite who they play

Zero chance that only 10% of schools make the playoffs. Why would they throw all of that revenue away? You think they will go from pretty much everyone making the playoffs to 10%? That will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER HAPPEN.

Ever

Nothing says "it has worked well in football" quite like the state championship losing money for the first time ever.

championship has lost money most years - without sponsors would be gone... hence if it doesn't get back to one weekend....again.. soon.. will be gone.
