Slightly long story. Took the family to the new splash pad at Kees park. Was sitting next to a guy who I noticed had a holstered firearm. No big deal. All of a sudden a fat white lady and a fat black guy who are Kees Park Personnel/Volunteers come by and tell them several parents have expressed concern.

I let out a loud "Oh my frickin God!" The lady tells me that if I didn't know the guy I would be feeling different. I tell her I don't know that guy from Adam. The man shows him his DOD ID and his permit and says he is simply open carrying. His wife then explains she is a deputy and she usually open carries but is Pregnant and it was uncomfortable. She said they checked all the signs and there was no Firearm free zone or gun prohibitions. (My own wife later confirmed that on the City of Pinevilles website for Kees Park)

Anyway the fat lady keeps going on about concerns and tells me they are doing it for our security. I tell her that I provide security for my own family and they shouldn't be violating the laws. It's an open carry state. The guy was being calm through this and said he would go put it up and he did. I kept questioning the lady about why they were violating the law? She told me it was a Firearm Free zone they just hadn't put up the sign yet since the new Splash Pad opened Friday. I said BS because Kees park has been open for decades. Well she says screw it I'm calling the cops.

So my family and I leave disgusted at this, and the guy on the way back shakes my hand for having his back. As we are leaving the cops come flying in and officers jump out with Ar-15s running like its a shootout. They escort the guy and his family out. That's disgusting. Don't they know the law? If there are any Pineville PDs on this site they should be ashamed.

What makes more of a fuss, a dad sitting with his wife while his kids play and he happens to be following the law by open carrying a small handgun VS cops flying in with assault rifles? I'd be more afraid of crazed cops armed to the teeth charging into a park full of kids for a guy who was no longer even armed.

TL:DR - Pineville violates a citizens rights and Police use the chance to play Rambo.

Mr drinks cc errywhere. Most times I forget he's even doing it. Open carrying at a spray park with kids is asking for optimum attention.

Eta if I'm at a spray park with my kids and someone is open carrying I'm going to be wary. I'm fine with it but it's going to keep me on my toes.

This is just an all around fricked up situation, but I do not understand the desire to open carry at the fricking splash pad. If you were going to North Baton Rouge, hell fricking yeah open carry, but you're at the damn splash pad for God's sakes what do you think is going to happen to you?

I lived in Pineville when I was in grad school. It's a shite hole.

Unreal

The guy had a DOD permit and there were no gun free zone signed posted. The cops are in the wrong here.

They have nothing better to do.

Escorting him out was the wrong move. But based on what you said, the chances are high that the fat bitch called 911 and misspoke the situation. In that case, all you can do is let the situation play out.

i thought you said a sovereign citizen was open carrying?

More chances to get shot playing disc golf at Kees Park, by some putz exercising his 2A rights.

How big of a paranoid pussy do you have to be to pack heat at a water park?

Some people don't feel safe unless they have their personal firearm protection.
When bad things happen it's over before the cops get there. You better have your own protection and know how to use it properly.
All laws were being followed.
The "concerned" parents should have left if they did not feel safe.

I completely agree with you, but it's Pineville PD. I'd trust LSUPD 1000x more than I'd trust those backwoods retards.

I can't see them escorting a deputy out, she was a deputy.

Though i also think people who carry in parks and public spaces like that just want attention. $0.02

Nothing to see here. Splash pads are trashy and open carrying at a Splash pad is taking trashy to the next level.

I'm all for people legally having firearms, in public or private. But the situation had nothing to do with you, do you not have the self control to keep your nosey self out of other people's business?

It seems the OP escalated the situation with the fat mom and, like the fat mom, is part of the easily offended crowd.

The DoD guy sounds like the only reasonable person in this story. When somebody complained about his gun, he went and put it up because ultimately he was probably just trying to have a nice, drama free day with his family.

Fortunately the Prineville PD didn't come in there and shoot everyone for resisting arrest or whatever when they feared for their safety.
