Buddy who lives up the road had a big goat killed last night. Throat ripped up and arse end ripped out of the goat. Poor old goat had been around for forever and was an easy 200#. Second animal that's been attacked on his place.
Bobcat, Squatch, Jersey Devil, or Rougarou?

It may have died and gotten eaten. More than one animal could have attacked. Panther. Black bear etc.

Do bob cats hunt in packs, seems no?

No black bears in WBR that aren't deputized. Goat was up and healthy at dusk. Found this morning all mangled. Seriously doubt it's a panther.
Would a yote take down a old fat goat?

I told him to put a game camera up for pics. We both have mares and foals that we are worried about. cant have a cat fricking with our investments.

I've seen coyote hunt in pairs. Its possible, inspecting the dead animal could tell a lot. Scratch and bite patterns.etc.

Only one way to find out

I wouldn't think that would be a bobcat...
May have been a black bear or coyotes, but my guess would be some stray dogs packed up and killed the old boy. I have seen normal dogs from a neighborhood get together at night and kill a small horse.

There weren't any tracks in the mud?

More than likely a dog. My FIL had to get rid of one of his German Shepards because he kept killing the neighbor's cows. He told me once they get a tast for blood there is nothing u can do anymore. After the 4th time he paid the neighbor a 1000 for their cow he put him down. They were able to salvage some meat on a couple of them.

Don't know about tracks or where the goat was found. guy has about 30 acres and he didn't mention any tracks or sign.

I wanna see a 200lb goat. I didn't think they got much over 100lbs.

That's what I'm thinking, if the cows don't do anything, 2 yotes can take a calf, easily. 3 or 4 could take a goat easily, maybe 2.

I'd bet coyote too. If two can kill a mature buck they could easily take down a goat.

FTR, 200# is a guesstimate, but that old man was big. He wasn't some little Billy Goat he was a big nasty hairy fricker.
