ETA; Ferentz no longer candidate again for 6th time

Two sources . . .
Have now told me that Kirk Ferentz is at the top of Michigan's list of coaching candidates.
Members of Michigan's search committee leaked today that Ferentz has been made priority No. 1. Lloyd Carr, who's retiring after 13 seasons at Michigan, is pushing for Ferentz, a source said. He has a say in this. Mary Sue Coleman, UM's president and the UI president when Ferentz was hired at Iowa, has a say in this. That's according to logic, by the way.

The Carr mafia wins out. man not only has that dude been wasting talent the past few years, but he's fricking up the future of the program. Good job Lloyd

I am sure he was their man all along...

Sounds like they are backed in a corner now and taking a last ditch run at Ferentz. I would love for him to turn them down AGAIN and see who they wind up with.

michigan just needs to stop being cheap and stop acting like it's such a privelege to coach there.

now thats its back to ferentz its pretty obvious one of carr's people was responsible for the leak

The rest of their list doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.
Brady Hoke - Rebuilt Ball State, but still hasn't done much to warrant a step up to a major program.
Tom O'Brien - Did great at Boston College, but jumped to NC State a year before he should have. If he stayed at BC this year, he could have cemented his image as someone who could win at a BCS program with a recent history of being middling at best.
Greg Schiano - Good coach, as he rebuilt one of the biggest laughing-stocks in the country into a respectable team. If he wasn't leaving Rutgers for Miami, though, I doubt he'll leave for Michigan. (He had been a Miami assistant in the past and recruited well in Florida, AFAIK.)
Jim Grobe - Good coach, able to do well at one of the historically worst teams in a BCS conference, Wake Forest.
Gary Pinkel - Good coach, resurrected a Mizzou program that's been mediocre and snake-bit for almost 40 years (5th Down Game, etc.). I don't see him leaving Mizzou for Michigan unless they pony up, which Michigan won't do. (Mizzou will likely open the checkbook for him after being #1 for the first time in decades.)
Jeff Tedford - Has had a good program, off and on, for years at Cal, yet never able to take it to the next level. Good offensive mind which has tutored many highly-drafted QBs such as Aaron Rogers. Not actively looking to leave Berkeley anymore now that construction is beginning on the new athletic facilities. Finished the year poorly by continuing to play using injured QB Nate Longshore, well after he'd sustained a bone chip in his ankle that severely hobbled his abilities.
There are some good candidates in there, but I don't think Michigan's willing to pay what it takes to get a coach on the rise like Pinkel, Grobe, or Schiano.
Short of getting some awesome coach out of left field, I feel very few people besides Lloyd Carr are going to be happy.

The really funny part is, Miles would have been cheaper.

Its isnt funny....it is down right pathetic what has traspired since this all began.
It isnt like BM didnt know a YEAR in advance what was going on. If he wanted to talk to LEs so bad, he could of done it before the season even began.

Nope. It's kind of funny. It's like watching Notre Dame implode because of self-importance. Maybe this will humble all the "history" and "tradition" talk. Teams like this think they are entitled to everything and its ridiculous.

Dammit. This is why Carr should not have a say in the next coach. He's pushing hard for a coach who's practically the same as him. We don't need more mediocrity! We need a coach with new ideas. Hell, not even new, just 21st century! A coach who prepares to defend a spread offense instead of pretending it doesn’t exist. A coach who doesn’t think mobile quarterbacks are a fad. A coach who doesn’t make me yell, “who the hell calls run up the middle on first and twenty after run up the middle didn’t work on the last 12 first downs?!?!” If we’re going to pony up $3-4mil/year for a coach they’d better not be Carr 2.0!

it is amazing how bad some of these AD's can screw these coaching searches up. You would think they'd have this shite under control.

This guy that yells?
Why don't they just go after Kelly, what's the hold up?
