I know they're two different types of big cats but have any of you seen any of these cats in Louisiana?

I know the OB generally gets a laugh out of the same mountain lion picture going around.
But, I can't be the only one that has heard that insanely creepy cry/growl in the woods at night?
Now I don't know what makes the sound, but I know I'm a pretty big ol' boy who's every instinct said to gtfo.
If someone can tell me what it is, I'd feel a bit better.
Also, the guy three houses up raises barbado goats and has a 6ft fence. Kept having goats disappear. Put up a game camera, and... I'd have a damned hard time saying it wasn't a small cougar dragging the goat over the fence.

I heard what I know was a cougar, a 4 legged tawny colored I would think, off the Calcasieu River years ago while hog hunting, i.e. just walking the logging roads listening for hogs.
Myself and a buddy were walking out of the woods right before dark. I had 2 golden retrievers with me that were not hog dogs but I would let them go wth me so they could be out.
As we were getting closer to the Jeep, the dogs starting going crazy smelling something in the thick brush we were walking by.
They started to go into the brush and we heard a roar that definitely was not the high pitched squeal I have heard bobcats make.
This was definitely the sound of a BIG cat! It was a growling roar that got us thinking it was a good time to call the dogs back and get out of the area!
I have never seen one live which includes hunting in west Texas where other members of my hunting club swear they have seen one.
However, I am convinced that there are "mountain lion/cougars" in our area.
I have also heard with no documentaive proof that some were relocated to the area by wildlife officials to help control the hog population. I don't know if how true that might be but the person who told me has family connections to LWF and he claimed it was true.
Interesting though.

I saw one in Southern Arkansas in the 90s when I worked up there. It was sun up and I opened some curtains to see one standing across the street at a tree line. Probably 50 feet away. Stared at me for a good 10 or 15 seconds and bolted into the woods when I moved. Fairly close, good light and I looked at it for 10 or 15 seconds. It was absolutely a large, predatory cat of the cougar/mountain lion variety.
In Louisiana, I was squirrel hunting at dusk when I was 14 when I believe one screamed at me. Never heard a sound like that before or since. It was a long, sustained, very loud scream that sounded like a woman being murdered. I'm in my 40's and have lived in or next to the woods most of those years and have spent a lot of time in the woods. Only one time have I heard that sound. I don't think my feet touched the ground until I was home.

Best thread possible to see who is all full of shite.
About a decade ago I did a paper in undergrad and part of it I had to ask the class who has seen a panther in the wild in LA or has a family member that has, and over 90% the room raised their hand. Nearly all had an uncle with property that sees them all the time

My boss is a no bs kind of guy. The man saw two black panthers fricking in a cane field during deer season right out of race land. He has pictures. I'll work on getting them.

I can verify with certainty that at least one of each of these animals are in LA.

didn't read the whole thread so may have already been stated. The LDWF headquarters has a 140 pound cougar in the lobby that was killed in the Atchafalaya area. I asked an agent in the building that I thought their official stance was there is no cougars in LA to which he responded that is a myth. he says the numbers are low however we have them in all areas of the state.

Ive never seen one but when I was 15 or 16 my neighbor who is the same age said he was spotlighting coons and saw eyes in a tree across a field. When he got closer he first thought a deer was in a tree and instead it was a big cat and it climbed down and ran off. We all thought he was full of shite and he had a tendency to lie a lot. The old man that farmed all that property confirmed that he would see one in that area about every 15 years
I know several people that have said they have heard them. Some I believe and others I know are lying.

Yes, I have without a doubt seen a big cat in Bienville parish on 3 different occasions. Twice while I was turkey hunting and the other time during deer season. These 3 sightings were over a span of about 15 years. There were a couple of other guys on our lease that claim they have seen one too. The first time I saw one I notified LDWF and they told me big cats don't exist in LA. Not the case.
