Here's what various draft websites had to say about UDFA OG Landon Turner

10. Landon Turner, G, North Carolina
Height: 6-3. Weight: 330. Arm: 32.88.
40 Time: 5.58.
Projected Round (2016): 4-6.
4/26/16: Sources said that Turner didn't impress them when they scouted him. Turner is solid on the inside, but is limited to playing in the phone booth. He is sluggish and a waist-bender rather than having the preferred style of being a knee-bender. Turner isn't especially athletic or strong either.
8/15/15: Turner started off 2014 well, but strained an MCL and missed the games against East Carolina and Clemson. He has some athleticism, though he could use more power for the NFL.
Turner started 12 games at left guard in 2013 as the replacement for Jonathan Cooper. While there was a drop-off from Cooper, Turner wasn't bad. He has a combination of strength and athleticism. Turner was better as a run-blocker, but his pass protection improved as the year went on. Turner flashed when he saw the field as a redshirt freshman in 2012, starting four games. Turner has upside to rise.

Fantastic

Its why he didn't get drafted. The draftniks were pumping him up more than NFL scouts saw him. He's a big guy that crushes people in the run game but his feet are super slow.
I think Avery Young and Jack Allen have a better shot now that I'm looking at things.

Said it before and I'll say it again. I could give 2 Shittttts if he's a phone booth. We need a stout lineman to keep the interior of the line from collapsing so Brees can do what he does best, move up in the pocket.

I mean hes a fricking UDFA. Dont expect a HOF G out of him

I think I'm most intrigued by Avery Young, but Turner has as good of a shot as any.

If only it was that simple

Guards have to be able to get out and pull, and they MUST be able to get out in the screen game. That is essential in our offense.
Not sure he can do it.

Gabe Jackson was knocked for being a phone booth guard and he was one of the best guards last season.

Jackson is noticeably better in speed and agility drills compared to Turner

of Tim Lelito, Senio Kelemete, Landon Turner, Jack Allen and Avery Young....
Senio was the only one drafted.... in the 5th round... by the Cardinals...
He washed out, and ended up on our practice squad.
Lelito was a UDFA, who started as a backup and got playing time mostly because of injuries...
Neither Tim nor Senio had the success in college that Landon, Jack or Avery had.
Avery might have the best path to starting at left guard of the 3 of them... NEXT YEAR. Landon will need conditioning work, and opportunity to get a shot at RG. Jack, just hopes to catch on as a backup to Max Unger... Unless Max were to leave to free agency after this season, Jack is looking to earn the possibility to replace him in about what... 4 years?
Whether these guys were taken in the 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th....
They were going to face the same scrutiny and uphill battle to starting time.
If you watched the draft, there was a lot of new school analytic picks being made this year. Vadal went at the end of the 7th... that should conflict with your senses if you have any homerism in you.
I think a lot more of the draft is being done similar to baseball now. Teams in contact with the players about signing them. Contracts already in place at certain dollar values. Way more than we know is going on.
It was always happening for Landon.

I don't know about noticeably. His biggest advantage was the 20 yard short shuttle - 4.78 to 4.95
40 time - Jackson 5.51 Turner 5.58
3 cone - Jackson 8.25 Turner 8.2

Yeah that's actually very comparable times. Jackson actually did slightly worse in one.
Do you have the bench numbers on hand?
Edit:
Found them. Identical bench at 30 so the strength argument doesn't hold either.
Now at some point Turner pulled a hammy in the 40(?) I believe it said, so I don't know what drills he did before and after that, but Turner's vert (19 to 29) and broad (7' something to 9' even) was noticably worse. That's a huge vert gap. Not that offensive linemen need hops.

I just think he is a guy that can be an above average starter in this league. He will have to work really hard at his deficiencies, but he seems like he has a good head on his shoulders. Hopefully Turner, Young, and my personal favorite Allen make the other teams regret overlooking them.

Turner broad jumped 7'4" to Jackson 9'
Vert 19" to Jackson 29"
You can't use Turners pro day 3 cone compared to Jacksons combine
Pro day 3 cone for both
Jackson 7.91
Turner 8.2
As you mentioned the 20 yard shuttle
Those are noticeable differences in the most important drills

The three cone isn't a huge gap.
I will say looking at it now it seems Turner has a weaker lower body but he has a strong upper body (as strong as Jackson did).
The agility and speed is comparable.
So maybe that lower body strength deficiency, which is not good to have at guard, scared teams off.
That's still with the question of when did he pull a hammy. What order did he do the drills? Because a pulled hamstring will definitely affect those two drills more than others.

Huge to who? 1st rd vs 4th vs UDFA? That's a huge difference in any timed drill at the combine.
A top pick like Zack Martin turns in a 7.65
Jackson 7.91
Turner 8.2
Turner only ran 1 40 and didn't do other drills after injuring the hammy. Doubt he would jump and not do the others

Nobody said he was top pick material though. It's a huge gap from Martin to him. Not so much from Jackson to him. Still the other numbers are comparable.
The big issue is lower body strength with the shite vert and broad.
Looking at that, if it's an accurate reflection of his lower body strength then he will take a year or two to develop while he works on it.

I don't even know why I'm arguing with you
If you don't think ~ .3 isn't a huge difference at the combine them you simply aren't familiar with the process. It's not close. You are talking rounds
