DAT Thank God It's May Edition - Astros 2 @ A's 1 - FINAL

Can't sleep and figured that with a 1-1 dat record this year it's better luck than most
We can discuss many things but I think we'd all agree when I say praise Jesus that April is over
A few random notes/thoughts:
- Feldman looked good in his first relief appearance
-Hauschild threw 7 shutout innings for Fresno (not much of a hyped prospect but still falls under the encouraging trend category)
-Astros are 93-93 since the start of last season. Just goes to show if we can win a few series and get back up to .500 then we are one win streak away from last season. Yes, I know how that looks right now. No, I will not give up the blind optimism this early in the season. shite can only go up from this point, right?
Let's salvage a win in Oakland and head back to the Juice Box for a 10 game homestand!
Ps: friendly reminder that Mother's Day is next weekend cause I just found that out

Need to have at least a 5 game over .500 month to have a chance.
Posted on 5/1/16 at 8:21 am to texastiger38
To have a chance? The blue jays were below .500 last year when they made their deals at the trade deadline
There's a 4 series stretch this month where we play Boston, ChiSox, Texas, and Baltimore. The only "easy" series on paper is Minnesota coming to town this week and we know they're more talented than the start they've had to the year similar to us. Anything over .500 this month and we should be encouraged IMO

The division winner is probably going to win 85 games or so, and we'll have to go 78-60 the rest of the way.

Fister pitched well last time out. Hopefully he can repeat it, and we can find some offense. Altuve due a big day.

In order to reach last year's 86 wins, we have to go 79-59 the rest of the way. I don't feel good about this team playing 20 games above .500 the rest of the season.

Oh God please no more trading for help.

Just need a wild card, seems like a lot more parity in the AL this year compared to previous.

April shitstorms bring May callups.

The only silvet lining is if tbis keeps up hinch will get replaced. I don't see how can be retained if they lose close to a hundred this year.

I noticed Riley Ferrell had his first bad outing yesterday but even that was encouraging because it isn't because of wildness. He is throwing tons of strikes, which means they may have figured something out with his mechanics. This guy could be a high-leverage reliever by mid-2017 at the latest.

I remember my first 100-loss Astros season...

Did prom quit astro posting when the going got tough?

I'm not ready to throw Hunch out to the wolves like Ryno but I'd like to see him put his foot down on the shite instead of letting the players have free roam to do stupid shite.
I know the front office likes Hinch for his openness to their tinkering with advanced stats. But I can't help but wonder if a young team like this would be better off with an old hard arse like Dusty Baker or Phil Garner. You think those guys would repeatedly give their young team the rope to hang themselves? Or let Gomez season of dumbassery comtinue to wreak havoc on the team?

It's not in Hinch's dna. He is who he is....low energy...low discipline.

Gomez is sitting for a 2nd straight game at least.
Also, read an article that said Giles admits that his mechanics are off right now, something about his hands that allows batters to see his fastball better. Hopefully he can get it figured out, he'll be a big part of this team turning this thing around.

They say he landed on his elbow and bruised some ribs Friday night when he dove for that ball Vogt hit. Could be the truth, could be benching him and giving a false narrative so as not to publicly throw him under the bus.

Either way, maybe he'll get his head out of his arse. I just wish he would get into the mindset of singles and doubles are ok. We've got enough power in the lineup that we don't need it from him.
This team shouldn't NEED to hit HR's to win this year, they've got enough guys that can work counts and move people around the bases, but most of them seem like they are stuck on last years ideas.

dude i don't think Gomez has even seen a single pitch thrown to him this year. Every AB he takes the biggest hack possible pulling his head and falling to a knee.

He seems to have toned it down recently. I haven't seen him lose his helmet in a while or fall to a knee. I haven't watched every at bat though so I could be wrong.

That's why I said maybe he'll get his head out of his arse.
