re: Alan Dunn is severely disappointing this year

I know this may strike some of you as crazy, but maybe other teams have more talent and experience than we do this year. Perhaps next year the tables will be turned.
Believe it or not, there are other quality coaches in the SEC who also try really hard to do their jobs well. Sometimes, that combo of coach and player could outdo the same combo at LSU.
It's a crazy theory, I know.

This doesn't trike me as crazy but pm is a good recruiter and it's hit and miss on college baseball players

I agree. Most of the pitchers have bad mechanics imho. They fall off the mound toward 1st. No wonder they have control issues. Basic stuff.

I'm disappointed in the pitching but I'm not sure it's all his fault.
Some people can only look at the bottom line. Any negative outcome means the coaches are deficient and it is related to incompetence.
I'm going to go on record as saying Alan Dunn is the exact same coach he has been in the past...and he is a great coach.

To be fair to me, i made this post lst night while intoxicated past the .08 limit. My bad. But still, i expect better results on the mound.

Screw that, the loss is on Bugg not being able to underhand a ball 9 feet to the catcher to get an out at the plate. Instead he throws it practically in the dugout.
It would have been 6-5 LSU following the next inning.
I know it's hard to understand, but sometimes, just sometimes losses are on the players.

Your comment wasn't about pitching performance...it was about coaching performance.

Same here. Once it got to the 6th I said damn I need a drink.

I'm still trying to figure out how we get 3 weekend starters next season.
Lose Poche and Valek...and they are replaced by...?
- McKay hasn't developed at all this season
- Can Newman go 5+ innings with his primary pitch being the breaking ball? Assuming he even comes back...
- Smith is awful
- Bain has taken a step back
- Reynolds? Norman? Gilbert?
- Latz seems like he may be done
Guess we're banking on another grad transfer? I mean, it looks pretty bleak.

Because he threw the balls and strikes that missed their targets? He made the errors? I am as frustrated by some of these losses as anyone but he isn't telling pitchers to walk people on 4 pitches or miss the zone, or balk or have an error on an easy, routine play.

You know it's really surprising how many of us "fans" think that the coaches actually play the game and pin every loss on them. It really is to the point it's comical. In sports like baseball coaches have minimal impact at this level, it's not like they have to teach little kids how to throw. The pitching coach refines mechanics be he can't make the pitchers throw strikes. Understanding the sport and how little of an impact coaches can make after preparation.

Paul drives that blood stained bus with the wheels about to come off due to all the players he's run over.

He recruited the pitchers. All of them. If they aren't good enough, thats on their talent evaluation process or their ability to develop them.

It definitely doesn't look great. Obviously Lange will be the ace, but outside of that, I guess we are hoping Latz gets healthy, and McKay develops. I doubt smith and newman will even be back. Maybe we get a stud in this class who can start.

You are doing this wrong. The assistants get credit when we succeed, but PM gets the blame when we fail.
