In the next decade, we as a culture will become, for the first time, nostalgic for a period captured in high-definition video. This HD, 60-frames-per-second footage taken in New York City in 1993 is a test run for grappling with the weirdness of that fact. If not for fashion of the time, the clip could be mistaken for an iPhone 6S clip. We don't have to guess what being in New York looked like in 1993; we can see it just as clearly as we would on social media today.

The video comes from YouTube Pedant, who guesses, "that this footage was shot with a HDVS camera- perhaps a Sony SONY HDC-500 attached to a HDV-10 portable recorder which recorded on UniHi 3/4" tape." That camera alone weighed 10 pounds.

For some reason, that wasn't very impressive to me.

With a few exceptions, fashion has not changed that much

Those cars. God they look like such beaters today. They make todays cars look like spaceships.

I had forgotten how women in the early 90s loved big hair and men loved the porn mustaches.

Oh and 90s windbreaker jackets everywhere.

Those poor ancients, had to suffer through walking to and from work without Words with Friends, Clash of Clans, or even Snake. I can feel their suffering in HD.

This sounds like we are in the year 2245.

1993 is 23 years ago. Why would we be guessing what NYC looked like?

No, it definitely looks like it was filmed before 2001.

That's some demo footage from DVHS tapes. Back when HD video was only available on VHS (D Theater).

All of the young adults in that video are in their 40's and likely grandparents now

If it were 1963, it would be more impressive. The 90's weren't that long ago
