Did I just see Jubilee? Tell me I didn't see Jubilee. She's the worst.

Much better trailer than the last. I think they changed Apocalypse's voice again as well. I wonder if they go in search of Wolverine to help fight Apocalypse.

My guess is that they have the fight in the destroyed city and realize they are completely outmatched and go in search of help. Thus leading to the final act in Cairo.

So did Jennifer Lawrence threaten to walk if she wasn't more relevant in these movies? I don't recall Mystique ever being at the forefront like this.

damn, I mean it's a good trailer, but I'm mad I watched it.

Too much info and spoiled the cameo rumor at the end. arggh.

Notice she doesn't do full body paint anymore either, she was fully covered every-time she had a blue face.

If I were writing the story I would have a different Tier one mutant join the horseman and put Magneto in charge of the Xmen. He really hasn't been a villain to the new class like he was in the comics. Just I really enjoyed the arc when he was the leader of the Xmen in the 90's.

I know i am in the minority here but this movie just looks terrible. This has been the comic book movie I am looking forward to the least this year.

People bitch that WB does not respect the source material enough but Fox wipes its arse with the source material. I don't mind changing stuff, but why do they feel the need to change so much?

Does anyone else doubt the Horsemen turn on Apocalypse before the end? I mean all four of them are X-Men.

Apocalypses' voice reminds me if Will Ferrell in his Garth Brooks Skit.

You're not. This looks, as someone already said, way too cartoony. I believe Singer's heart is in the right place, but he just cannot make a good X-Men movie.

Should have dropped J-Law when she started making demands. Katniss now leads the X-Men. smh.

I agree, DOFP was good. Singer has gotten 1 out of 3 tries right, and IMHO DOFP worked because Singer followed Vaughn's formula (whom he replaced as director when Vaughn left to direct Kingsman).

Was nobody else totally thrown off by the clear chopped and collage dialogue?

"For""thousands of years" "he has been" "amassing mutants."

I just hope they don't give too much time to Jubilation Lee.

This is how I would run the X-Men franchise:

1 core team that sticks together for multiple movies. No solo movies, no changing up the team. The X-Men were always a team. Present them as a team. Don't wrap it around Xavier or Magneto.

Cyclops
Jean Grey
Wolverine
Storm
Colossus
Kitty Pryde
NIghtcrawler

The team isn't perfect, but it's basically the heavy hitter lineup from their most popular period.

Instead of doing trilogies, do two-movie arcs. One arc every two years, skip a year, do another one. Do one arc with Magneto, one with Shi'ar/Dark Phoenix, one with Apocalypse. Then end the series after you have six good, solid movies with continuity, and characters you care about. The breakout stars can move on, and you can re-boot with a new team, or let one of the side teams take the spotlight for their own series of movies.

The problem with the X-Men is that there's a lot of canon characters and a lot of HUGE stories. I say whittle that down to the core, simplify things. Let the team members and their personalities drive the tension on the team and the dynamics of team's effectiveness.

if you didnt like x1 and 2, idk what to tell you. the first x-men really paved the way for most of the comic book film industry. the second one was even better. if you honestly didnt care for them, these are not for you.

curious, what did you find so wrong about those films?

I think an even better option would be to set the X-Men Franchise up on television, Star Trek-style, eventually leading up to movies.

The original core X-Men team, IIRC, was Beast, Storm, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Cyclops, and Angel.

from the comments thread off io9:

quote:

I remember when they were casting this thing, they made a big deal about this newcomer Lana Condor playing, Jubilee (They trotted her out with the main cast). A year later and we have zero dialog and zero action shots...seems like the role may have been reduced to a glorified cameo ala, well, all the other Singer X-men movies.

Singer has confirmed she was ALMOST completely edited out. So don’t hold your breath.

Oh, they weren't total crap. And I'm willing to concede that perhaps a lot of corners were cut due to the material and the uncertainty of it. Perhaps the studio wasn't prepared to shell out given the untried material. Perhaps that is why, when you put them next to First Class and DOFP they come across as even worse.

Prof X and Wolverine were perfectly cast and conceived. I liked Storm and I wanted to like Magneto, but he always seemed too frail in spite of his power. Everything else was patchwork to me. Too many compromises, especially in light of the success of First Class and DOFP.

Close.

Scott, Jean, Bobby, Warren, Hank... and Prof. X.
