Hitting just about any animal on a bike is bad news. This is especially an issue at night.
I just attended a benefit a couple weeks ago for a guy who hit a deer on his bike the day before Thanksgiving. He lost all his teeth, bit most of his tongue off, broke both arms, several ribs, and had a punctured lung and other internal injuries. He had to have a lot of reconstructive surgery on his face in addition to surgery for his internal injuries. And I think he's got more surgeries to go. It messed him up pretty bad. It's a miracle he's alive.

He wasn't getting hit either way. Semi would have missed him by at least 5 ft. Even if he didn't budge.
