4 is somewhat of a minimum. You'll get 2.5 decent days there. It's just enough to satisfy the need to getaway, but you won't get to enjoy much else besides the beach.

If all you are after is some beach time, sure.

Hawaii is a 5 hour direct flight from Phoenix and even I would want more than 4 days.

I was there 6 and felt like I should have stayed there at least a few more days. I would say 6 is the bare minimum. Too much to do and see to only have 2.5 actual days there to do stuff.

Where is everyone getting 2.5 days?

Friday-Monday evening is 4 days.

Ok...3 full days where you aren't dealing with checking in/checking out...traveling, etc.

Still not enough time. Why spend all the money (and all the time the flights will take)on flights to Hawaii for only 3 full days?

I mean, you can do what you want....but 3 days would just be a cruel tease imo.

Old people complain so much about travel

I learned quickly traveling for work for years that my job is to show up to the airport on time and their job is to get me there in one piece. Once you realize you have zero control and you just let life happen, then the sooner travel is a breeze.

And I've never taken an 11 day vacation. Ever.

Same here. About the closest I got was my honeymoon then a trip to my parents condo afterwards. We got married between semesters, in mid May. 6 days in the Bahamas, then we came home for a few days, then went to the beach for about a week before summer semester started. After that I'm lucky to plan a week trip somewhere. Then kids were born and it makes it even harder.

You should try it. It's pretty awesome. I did a 14 day trip to Hawaii in January. IMO, 4 days is too short for a trip that far.

If I only had 4 days, I would go to Mexico or something.

Unfortunately our work schedules don't allow for that to occur.

Done this before and Caribbean, but both are off the table with a pregnant wife and the Zika threat. Yes, I know the threat is small and could even occur here, but there's no use in chancing it with plenty of other options of places to go.

Totally understandable. Would be the same way. I'm not pregnant yet and I'm not planning any trips.....but if I was planning a vacation Zika areas would be off the list right away.

Woke up at 2-3 AM the first couple of days. Starving and waiting until 5 AM to get breakfast.

This. My first night I was wide awake at 2AM, because it was 7AM back home. I went out and walked around the resort for a while.

Yeah, the sunrises and awesome resort breakfast was nice. We were there before anyone else and always grabbed the best outdoor table.

Another cool thing was watching NBA playoff games at lunch. Not every day, but a couple of times we went back up to the room to change for whatever we were doing that afternoon and I flipped a Spurs game on.

Also, since our anniversary is in May, the Sunday we flew out happened to be Mother's Day. I called my mom from the Honolulu airport when we landed. It was mid-afternoon there, and they were sitting down to dinner. Dad asked why I didn't call sooner, and I told him I'd been in an airplane the last 8.5 hours. Apparently he had totally forgot about the time difference.

Wha?? I feel this is grossly inaccurate.

OP - I would say that 4 days is way too short for Hawaii. 7 days is a minimum. And don't try to do more than 1 island in 7 days either. There is so much to do in Hawaii. For a 4 day trip, I would look at something closer than Hawaii. If you just want to chill on a beach you could do that most anywhere in the carribbean. But if you really want to experience Hawaii, you want to explore a little more. Just my opinion anyway.

Hawaiian Airlines has direct flights to Honululu from Phoenix that I've flown on. One way was a lil over 5 hours, one way was a lil over 6 hours. Can't remember if the shorter time was going there or coming back. Difference in times due to trade winds.

I know. Last time I flew it was 6.5hrs and 5.5hrs. But we did fly to Lihue from LAX. Maybe HNL is closer
