I agree deaths are up, it has become common knowledge.

Not sure use is up though.

Well, I personally don't know FOUR people on heroin.

Sorry.

Just because you don't know they're on heroin doesn't mean they aren't. There are some reasonably high functioning addicts out there.

I was in college from 2009-2013, smoked pot, snorted coke and partied balls. I liked having a good time.

Not once was heroine ever mentioned nor have I ever even seen it.

To say heroine is an epidemic among college students is just a ridiculous statement.

I also haven't done any kind of drug since college. Even when I did, I researched it thoroughly and knew what I was getting myself into. Even if I had died I wouldn't have wanted anyone to cry over it, it was my decision to be an idiot.

I will never feel bad for someone who OD's on drugs. Ever.

Heroin is much more widely available in NO than it is in BR.

Would you feel bad for the ODer's mother? She gets to live with the decisions of her naive child.

I'm glad you "researched" everything and were/are so well educated and informed. Here's a news flash for you: You didn't know what you were getting every time, even if you thought you did.

Do you actually believe you knew exactly what your coke was cut with? What was in every tab of Molly? How much fentanyl was is the heroin you never saw?

Now I'm going to be searching for the four super secret heroin addicts I associate with or are family/friends of mine.

well there is also the whole addictive personality or whatever the hell creates addiction issues in some people

everyone has vices and pleasures. some people aren't built to handle certain ones well

even the most straight edge person can run into a substance that causes issues. we all eat, and food addiction is a serious thing

Heroin...I have seen it almost triple as the drug if choice in treatment centers relative to prescription pain meds in the last 18 months. The correlation to increase in heroin as they cut down the access to RX is real.

i deal with it in my work (i do criminal defense) and it's real. i talk with my clients about their problems and they go into major details about it. i also grew up in an area that became saturated with pills and THAT was a major thing for a while

those TX pain mills being 30 minutes away made it very easy to get large quantities of "legal" opiates over here

Hopefully, your basic assumption is correct and you don't have any addicts among your family and friends.

Sorry for not knowing this, but what makes heroin so addictive? Why is it so prevalent now as compared to crack, coke, meth? I hear about the epidemic, but why heroin?

This is what I keep hearing.

I'm not in the medical profession; but if pain medicine is the reasoning for people choosing heroin because of the anti-pain effects; the cost and they are also scheduled one narcotics make it harder for patients that need them to get it. It seems an ongoing cycle of bullshite.

How do you treat pain?

That's the answer that needs to be proven without getting anyone strung out on this shite.

it makes you feel great, for one

plus i believe we evolved to use opiates. i think our brains have specific opioid receptors. some doctors can correct me

well opiates are very popular, mostly b/c they start as being legally prescribed quite often. this led to a rash of opioid abuse since the late 90s, which has led to many states making acquiring LEGAL opiates difficult.

also the US invading afghanistan and decreasing the power of the taliban, allowing warlords to have more power PLUS mexican drug cartels starting to grow poppy plants have led to a surge in supply, lowering the price of "street" opiates (namely heroin)

so you have a huge demand, with a limited supply of legal options, which means the price of black market options have skyrocketed, while there is a more powerful, available, and now cheap substitute (heroin)

Heroin is physically addicting drug. I hear alcohol is another. You can die withdrawing off of these. Coke is mental.

well any obsessive-compulsive behavior can lead to "physical" addiction

but coke is low on the scale in terms of drugs

heroin and nicotine often race for #1 in terms of physical addiction
