Why doesn't American Sports have better nicknames?

I mean we went from some great nicknames in the 40's, 50's, etc today where we just add a letter to the name such as A-Rod, K-Rod, etc....

) Wade is the flash, Sergio Rodriguez is White Chocolate, The Admiral, etc etc
