I'd ditch the leather and go get a new, reliable car within your price range. Leather seats aren't a giant luxury in the south when it's 96* outside. Even if leather were free, I'd prefer cloth.

Banner Chevrolet has a white Buick Lacrosse with leather, dual climate, backup camera for 21k with 8K miles. Still over your budget but this is a really good deal.

I have found a very similar deal on a 2013 Acura ILX premium package I am test driving next week. That Buick is a good deal as well.

You're too caught up in trying for a luxury brand. I used to live in Dallas and know everyone in their late 20s seems to have a Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc. Don't try to buy something you can't afford; just get a Honda or Toyota.

The Accord is a better car than the ILX (ILX - Civic; TSX - Accord). Plus, Acura updated the ILX this year and the pre-2016 ILXs sucked.

I make fun of everyone in Dallas for doing this, and look what I've become.

TBH it's more my wife than me, but I do have us scheduled to test drive Hondas and Toyotas as well. I will NOT buy something we can't afford.

Currently getting advice from an old friend who is a car salesman.

Sound advice. And don't forget about the maintenance on those status symbols. I have a friend who bought a BMW sports car a few years ago. She can afford it but got the shock of her life when she took it in for a brake job and got a bill for $3000.

An extra 4K is like +$70/month over the life of a five year note.

Posts like these are always amusing. Did they replace her rotors, pads, calipers and lines for all 4 corners? Because that's the only way anyone is charging $3k for a "brake job." She didn't pay $3k just to get new pads and the rotors turned, unless she got taken on a wild ride.

Maybe she did; the work was done at the BMW dealership. My point was that expensive cars require expensive parts and maintenance is never cheap. My own experience with a Volvo several years ago was very similar.

I'm just saying it's ridiculous to post numbers when they are so obviously exaggerated. Sure, luxury brands have more expensive maintenance most of the time.

But none of them are charging $3k for what most people consider a brake job. Now if you want to talk for exotics, maybe. ETA: Even then, likely not.

I've got a 2013 Ford Fusion SE fully loaded with the 1.6L Ecoboost at 75,000 miles that I'll sell you for well below your max budget at $11,500.

Seriously.

Her first mistake. She already paid a steep premium just for that.

Ideally I am looking to buy something with under 45K miles on it.

This Accord is fully loaded with low mileage and comes with a 100K mile warranty. I am pretty sure I could get them to come down on the price a little as well.

LINK

Now tell me why that doesn't seem like a good deal.

It's fine, but for less than $2k more you can have the newest body style with 0 miles and 3 years newer. It will always be worth more than the one you linked, likely more than $2k more.

I'm also skeptical of dealers that show a mileage on the advertisement when the odometer clearly shows more mileage. What else are they getting wrong?

And almost none of the features - besides the backup camera.

This is a VERY good point and something I didn't catch. Thanks for the heads up
