How would you handle it if your son or daughter told you they are transgender?

Now that this is commonplace. I think I'd love my kid regardless and help them in anyway I could. Would you try to convince them otherwise? Your thoughts?

You slack jawed phag, it's a mental disorder, you can't be transgender. You either have a dick or you dont

Wow, if it wasn't "commonplace, you'd not love your kid apparently.

Get them to a mental health specialist. I think that would be the appropriate first step.

I'd tell them that reality doesn't work that way and to quit buying into prog propaganda

This isn't commonplace.

I'd love my kid no matter what as along as they don't harm anyone.

How old is this son or daughter? Because if my daughter came to me at 9 years old with some transgender bullshite I'd probably just ignore it. No 9 year old knows what a damn transgender is unless somebody told them.
Now, if it was apparent through her growing up that she was different like that in some way then I would understand.

Love my kid and do what I could to help them get the help they needed.

Your child and conditional love. Got it.
ETA: Please don't have children until you work this out in your head.

If you pander to a dangerous delusion they are likely to harm themself because their father wasn't man enough to explain how the real world is to a developing mind.

It's the one thing I don't understand. I consider myself pretty open and tolerant of others. I'd be accepting and loving if they told me that they were gay/lesbian.
The actual physical act though with transgenders (taking hormones, surgical operations) is wrong, immoral and I even believe unethical.
I really, really do not understand it and refuse to give in. If you're born a certain gender, you are that gender. You can't change it. I refuse to give in.
What's next? Sally decides she doesn't want to be a human anymore and decides she's a little kitten? Or Todd decides he isn't fit to be a male and wants to be female Koala bear?
I draw the line with the transgender.

Give them some understanding and take them to a good therapist. Being a teenager can be difficult, but getting angry with them isn't going to solve anything. By and large, with a therapist, some time, and maybe some prescriptions by the time they hit 20 it will probably be sorted out.
Otherwise reasses at 20.

I'd still love and support the kid.
I'm more socially liberal than most on here, but I'm completely side eyeing a friend of a friend who has a 7 year old son who's supposedly transgendered. I don't have kids, so I'm probably totally off base, but at that age, it seems far more like the parents pushing him to be a special snowflake than a legitimate determination the child is making for himself (identifying as female).

My kids have grown up well adjusted and don't have that problem.
But hypothetically, it wouldn't affect my relationship with them. It wouldn't need to be commonplace for me to love them
