How are the courses around Birmingham? Looking at taking a summer trip to Oxmoor and Farmlinks.

wouldn't say farmlinks is an outstanding layout, but it's an outstanding experience because of the maintenance ... it's a research facility, so they'll have some fairways with different grasses ... can't remember if the greens have different grasses, but i don't think so ... think they have the newest bermuda, but whatever they have doesn't give a pitchmark like the old bentgrass ... and they fill in old pitchmarks on the green ... the greens are always smooth, regardless of speed, and their bunkers have great sand ... the driving range is flat (oxmoor's driving range is off the side of a mountain into the morning sun), and their chipping green is large with plenty of room and two bunkers ... that's why it has a great rep ... $120, but that gets you all day ... oxmoor has the ridge (bent and a bit less penal than the valley) and the valley (bermuda) ... ross is separate from oxmoor and twice the price ... limestone springs used to be a very good course, but i think it's changed ownership and has fallen a bit ...

edit: all of farmlink's par 3s are elevated (one on the front has an elevation of about 150-200 ft from the tips), so they go out every morning and shoot the distance using a slope rangefinder ...

Played TPC today. Bought the NOLA card. Greens are fast. They're shutting it down in about a week for Zurich. Big Alligator between 9 and 18th holes.

What putters are y'all hitting. I need to get a new one and thinking about going to a mallet or half mallet. Currently using an old blade putter. Not looking to break the bank (so no Scotty Cameron). Something around $100.

The new toe up/torque control putters from Oddessey look like a neat concept, but about twice what your stated budget is. Being released on April 15th:
