I HIGHLY DOUBT that you've been on a base with a real world active shooter (several times)... It's not like these things happen often.

AP is reporting murder/suicide. Probably a domestic situation. Around 2001 when we got back from deployment a guy on my first boat found out his wife had been cheating on him. He put the kids in a closet, shot her, then shot himself. This sort of shite happens in base housing more than most people realize.

Brother, I was an infantry officer in the Army. We got locked down when I was at OCS at Benning because of a domestic issue that turned into an active shooter situation. It happened again when I was at Lewis.
There are some crazy arse people in the world, even in the service. An LTC tried to hire a hit man to off his wife while I was at Lewis, among many other things.

Stress of two wars took its toll on the force, at least when I was in (though, obviously, that's not what happened here).

I read that it was at the Medina Annex. Not where the BMT trainees are housed.
The Medina Annex is where we did all of our BMT weapons training though. I believe that is where the armory is as well. Dang, it's a crazy world out there.
