So a mobile phone is not a legit form factor to manage an installed alarm over a captain Kirk LED panel?
Do those not exist more for show and margin than legit function?

Security dealers don't make money on the systems, it's monitoring. Hell the big guys give the equipment away.

There is one on the market, Resolution Products Helix, and it doesn't sell worth a frick. End users still want hard keypads. The same can be said for whole home audio.
FWIW- I work with a/v and security dealers across the region everyday with numerous product lines. I get plenty feedback.

And Verizon and att give away state of the art iPhones. Would you argue Apple doesn't make huge margins off those just because the end user thinks it's free?
How is the alarm industry different?
Eta and phones look radically different than even 10 years ago.
Those alarm panels look like they did in 1982. You don't think this is an industry ripe for an overhaul?

It's the samething. Apple sells the phone to the phone company, phone company gives you the phone so you sign a contract.
Now you just trolling cuz you ain't that stupid

See my edit above. You are defending a form factor that looks no different than it did in 1982.
What's your big innovation since? Wireless door sensors? Throwing in a smart deadbolt? Providing a mobile app? Retinal scan?
Eta I'm not crapping on your industry I'm just ready for something NEW

And that's where you don't know what you're talking about. Systems aren't the same as 82.
I thought your argument was making money selling equipment
Have a nice night CAD

I love my nests. I am never standing in front of them to manage the temp. I typically use my phone. My HVAC system doesn't have huge swings in temperature, so there is no need to see the temperature on the screen

My alarm panel does all the 1982 stuff plus all the same smart home things you do with your Wink. I can trigger automation events when alarm contacts are tripped. Can also trigger events based off my location with geofencing. Set scenes etc etc
Edit: almost forgot and integrates with Nest

I bought 3 nest cams last year, I was planning on buying the thermostat sometime this year. Kinda glad I read this thread, the only downside will be I was looking forward to integration with the cameras.
I just hope alphebet doesn't shut down the cameras some day

Guys can we please leave the personal shite out of the threads on this Board? If anyone researches Ton Fadell and Nest on any mainstream Tech site they'd see CAD is 100% on with Nest. They're a smoldering cinder right now. An incredibly expensive one with a tyrannical Chief, hundreds of millions in losses and no products to show for them...

Why didn't they just press the 'easy' button? I don't know why Staples put out a smart home hub to begin with.

No, but you can't deny that Nest is focused on that kind of clientele, the high end of techphiles.
It's not unreasonable to assume they have a smart phone within 3 feet at all times.

so you're saying NEST deliberately makes the UI hard to read because they aren't interested in selling thermostats to people without smartphones glued to their hands?
