The high efficiency and reliability of Russian military hardware has drawn the interest of many potential buyers, Sivkov said. "Before the Syrian campaign, for almost 25 years, the global image of Russian military hardware was not good. Potential buyers often kept away from buying it. But during the operation in Syria Russian weapons proved their effectiveness and reliability. And this drew enormous interest from potential customers," he said

Indonesia, India and Malaysia have expressed interest in buying Russian-made Su-34 and Su-35 jets.

"While India has traditionally been a buyer of Russian weapons, Malaysia and Indonesia have traditionally bought American hardware. Now, they have turned to Russia. If they buy Russian weapons their military and technical sector will be tied to Russia, including supplies of components and training of pilots," Sivkov said. Among other potential buyers are also Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina, he added.

Sure, I'd buy Russian technology over US or Western Europe.
Russians are so much more technical, safety and detail-oriented than us.
You get what you pay for, Russian hardware is wonderful for budget-conscious states who don't put a premium on their pilots' lives or safety.
Plus Russia is desperate for cash and the dollar (and Euro) are too strong for Asian economies.
Think Yugo circa 1985.
Don't read more into this than is actually there.

Does a high dollar also hurt American sales? I know Boeing has been having trouble because of this.

They're buying these in dollars. That said still cheaper than Boeing or Eurofighter

Said it months ago, Syria was just a reason for Russia to test and showcase it's hardware.

Using terrorists as cannon fodder? I'm all for it.

Those same missions could have been accomplished with an F-4. All they did was bomb targets with no advanced anti aircraft defense or air to air opposition.

Are they really showing off much of anything in a situation like this? No AA fire, no air to air fights. Pretty easy to show off in a situation like this I guess.

The AK47 disagrees.

Don't let Darth see your post. He will explain to you that the US spends millions on hammers and screw drivers and our spending does not equate to military dominance.

Like there was any real resistance in Syria..........

Yea I wouldn't exactly call syria a showcase. Don't we export watered down F-15's? Who the frick wants an SU-34 over an F-15? Like someone else said, the F-4 would have been a monster in that campaign.
That said, I have always like the look of the SU-35. It's a mean looking machine.

Russian military hardware was really crappy compared to Western hardware. When the US got hands on some of these feared Soviet fighters, they were pretty disappointed. However, they could take a beating and replacement parts were easy to find, and cheap.

I have seen some old VN Phantom drivers wax the shite out of some young Eagle and Viper drivers asses in 4(15's/16's) v. 1 matchups

I couldn't find a citation and the story may be apocryphal.
I remember hearing a quote from an Israeli general. When asked if his army was the finest in the world, he answered "I don't know. We've only fought arabs."
