Asik must be waived, I don't care how bad it makes the team looks. I rather have 3-4 mill of dead salary than 11 mil. He is useless and will hold back this team from growing and is unreadable.

It's not that cheap. The deal was reportedly "designed" to possibly be stretched after year 3. If we do it after year 1 you're looking at a cap hit of $7 for 5 years. If you want to get rid of Asik you need to wait. The window for moving him doesn't start until the 2017 offseason IMO.

I'd give up our second round picks if it meant we got rid of Asik.
Asik and our two second rounders for anyone's second rounder.

i don't see the problem in keeping him honestly. The stretch of January->February he was putting up 5/8 in 18-19mpg. Issue is we could use the money elsewhere, but we could definitely do a lot worse if he's gone.

We are way overpaying for how Gentry seems comfortable using him. But like I said, you don't move him until you actually need to since there is a cost associated with it. And on the off chance you build the roster up enough that you can add 2 shooters next to Jrue and AD, you have to think that Asik becomes less of a liability as he becomes the "OMG look how open he is" guy not the "bail out a bad drive with a pass at your feet" guy.

1. Watch Dell trade our first.
2. Scream and yell; be pissed off in general.
3. Watch Dell frick around with some scrubs.
4. Wait till season opens with ridiculous injury list.
5. Watch Gentry in-game, staring into space with his mouth open.
6. Drink heavily.

So you'd rather pay Asik $11 million, or Steimsma $2 million?
They are both terrible, and Steimsm is worse by far, but i'd rather have $9 extra million dollars and a terrilbe center, than not have $9 million extra dollars and a bad center.

I'd take Asik at $11M all day. You forget how much the cap has changed dynamics. Asik is also able to provide quality minutes. Stiemsma is just throwing money away.

asik is paid like he's a top 10-15 center, when in reality he's not even top 25. The asik last year and this year, isn't an NBA starter. The Asik in Chicago and early Houston was.

Talk to Chicago and trade our pick for Jimmy Butler.

I'll just leave this here in regards to Asik: LINK

quote:

Since returning from a right ankle sprain on March 7, Asik, who last summer signed a four-year, $45 million contract with a non-guaranteed fifth year, has averaged 15.6 minutes a game. Kendrick Perkins, who signed for the veteran's minimum last summer to mostly serve as an on-court mentor to Anthony Davis, has averaged 14.9 minutes a game. If Asik’s playing time stays at its current pace, he will finish the season as one of two players in NBA history with more than 62 starts but under 1,200 total minutes played.

quote:

As a result, the defensive and rebounding specialist's per-game averages have been more modest than usual: 3.6 points and 6.1 rebounds, with career-low marks in blocks (0.4) and turnovers (0.8). They're not much better when prorated to starters' minutes, either: Per 36 minutes, Asik is averaging 7.6 points (tied for a career low), 12.8 rebounds, 0.8 blocks (career low) and 0.7 turnovers (tied for a career low).

quote:

ut the bottom line isn't pretty: Asik has the worst net rating (minus-8.3) among Pelicans players still with the team, according to NBA.com/Stats. Worse, even, is that New Orleans has been marginally better on defense this season when he's off the court (106.3 points allowed per 100 possessions, per NBA.com/Stats) than when he's on it (106.7).

quote:

But while the Pelicans' question marks moving forward are varied, perhaps the biggest red flag lies in the frontcourt they re-upped last offseason. Among the 16 two-man combinations that have logged more than 600 minutes for the Pelicans this season, the Asik-Davis pairing is the worst, with a minus-7.5 net rating.

quote:

Asik basically has the opposite of the Holiday Effect on the young superstar: Davis’ true shooting percentage of 55.3 this season jumped to 59.6 with Jrue Holiday on the floor, per NBAwowy, but cratered to 51.0 with Asik next to him.

quote:

How long can the Pelicans afford to tie up approximately $10 million a season for such meager returns? Would they go as far as using the stretch provision to move on from the center entirely?

What you don't get Teddy is the more people say he's terrible the longer he'll be on this team tormenting you. You should take no pleasure in articles like this. And Asik's not as bad as his stats for the year indicate. He's averaged 14.3 rebounds per 36 since January 1st and over 56.6% at the rim. It was actually 62% for just January and February, then he didn't shoot as well coming off the injury again. He needs to stay healthy next year so we can dump him.

Exactly what i was saying.. Like Harden cuz hes a great shot creator EXCEPT turns the ball over which will easily be improved at some point.. and also plays defense though
