The clever answer here is Wisconsin baseball.

Apparently, Nebraska's hoops stadium/facilities are awesome. They really looked on the upswing a couple of years ago.

An inordinate amount of sports journalists went to Northwestern, they and Syracuse are premier schools for that field. That's why they are discussed.

Ah. That makes a lot of sense.

I would guess the historical futility generates exposure every time the team is remotely good too just because they have NEVER made the dance.

Ohio State baseball.

Hosted a Super and they used to host the B1G. Got a nice new upgrade of stadium from Nick Swisher. They are on all the time BTN.

I left out college baseball because so few people care outside of the south, and so few programs pump money into them like they do with football and basketball.

The B1G has made a huge push into baseball and hockey the last 3 years. It will be interesting if that translates into success. They have some good facilities up there and also use minor league parks.

The B1G schools have always had good hockey programs I thought. I know it didn't fall under a conference sport until recently, but still. Minnesota, Michigan State, Michigan, Wisconsin are all major powers

I probably would have said TCU basketball, but then they made some news with they hired Jamie Dixon.

I think that one would be a good one if you didn't go to LSU and didn't have the Trent Johnson connection. Plus, they haven't been on the major concerence scene all that long. But God, they have been bad.

SEC and soccer?

I honestly don't know if they play it and never seen or read anything about them....

And they've never won an NCAA championship...in the 60 year Men's tourney.

They may care, but they don't actually go to games.

We hosted a few super regionals in recent memory but no one really cares about college baseball here, so.

Nebraska AD said when Nebraska joined the Big ten that joining B10 would give access to Chicago basketball players. That is why he did it, he said.

As of now they are a 2nd tier football program and out of mind for basketball.

Northwestern could be a scary program if the right coach ever came along to heavily recruit the Chicago area

Does Northwestern require class attendance? Serious question.

Didn't Ohio State lose to Florida State 35-7 or something in a regional several years back?

I wouldn't include baseball as it is relatively a new trend up north, as hockey may end up being in the south.

Basketball:
TCU
Penn St
Northwestern
Rutgers (most publicity they have had recently involved an abusive coach)

Others to consider:
Auburn basketball
South and Central Florida basketball (only include because their FB teams have made waves over the years in a major (sort of) conference
Washington State basketball

I can't think of many that have been totally irrelevant for football. Some that have sucked at length though:

Kansas
UNLV (not major, but this program blows)
Colorado (crazy because they have a national title to their name)
Illinois

How often has Bama made the tourney?

but yeah, it's almost shocking when you hear anything about "Nebraska basketball."

At least Kansas football had a nice little run under Kip's big boy.
