Champions will definitely reciprocate with other private courses. Lochinvar won't but you never know maybe he's got some connections.

If you are staying in Pearland check out Timber Creek. Its in Friendswood, easy drive. Its a 27 hole setup not located in a subdivision, green fees are around $50. Its one of the better deals in Houston.

If you want to stay on that side of town play Braeburn, it's private so you'll need a rep.
If you stay public Wildcat is unique but my go to cheap public course in that area is Southwick, not sure why I like it but I just do.

If you can swing getting onto one of the private clubs the renovations they have done at ROCC are pretty fantastic. It will be a little bit of a drive from where you are to Carlton Woods but both of those courses up in the Woodlands are great. Played the Nicholas at C Woods last Friday and they had just punched the greens earlier in the week. Played cypresswood Saturday and it was in good shape.

If you meant Deerwood, then yes. I like the Lake and Island courses but there are so many better courses than the 4 by the clubhouse. I wouldn't even think of driving to NE Houston with all the options where OP is staying.

If you don't want to go too far I would go with Magnolia Creek, WildCat, or Golfcrest.
Magnolia Creek is links style and a better lay out than Southwyk(which is in the area and links style as well). I haven't played there in a long time, but it was in great shape when I played.
Wildcat is pretty quirky, but it's entertaining and worth playing. The Highland course is a little more straight forward and the Lakes course is more challenging. I always recommend it to people just because you won't play many courses like it.
Golfcrest is a decent track and always has some of the best greens in Houston. They've hosted a couple lesser(Hooters, Adams, etc.) tour events out there and the players every year talked about how incredible the greens are. It's private, but I've never had trouble getting on there during the week.

Redstone, Augusta Pines, Deerwood CC (filmed Tin Cup here). I like Augusta Pines. Great layout, always extremely well kept

My boss took me there for my birthday to play it for the first time. I couldn't have been more impressed with it. It didn't hurt that I also had the best shot of my life on that course too

Staying near Pearland area if that helps but will travel......
The best public course is River Ridge in Sealy. From Pearland its a 50 or so minute drive, but all interstate/HWY. I like it better than Blackhorse and Cypresswood Tradition, but any three of these courses will be great.
ETA: don't be tempted by wildcat, it really is not that great except for location. Lots of blind shots and shite everywhere. Last couple of time I played there, I have been disappointed with their greens.

I play Clear Creek in Pearland a lot. Can't beat it for the price.

You definitely can beat it. Play Pearland Golf Club (Used to be County Place). It is cheaper, better, and never crowded, and only a few minutes from Clear Creek.
