Say he gets hired, what are the expectations? Is it too early to start gauging that?

Well, the defense would run to the ball and tackle, that much is certain. Initial expectations would depend on his assistants. With an offensive guy like Spurrier, everybody was pushing for a guy like Tenuta (if he doesn't land as a HC himself somewhere) who would be great, or Will Muschamp as DC. However, the DC is much less important if we hire JDR, and the OC would have to be an A or A+ hire, either on his Xs and Os, recruiting or a combo. Crowton might not be a bad choice to stay with a JDR-type defensive Head Coach.

Rocket....Man, just don't know about JDR. He is not ringing the bell for me. Guess my concerns about him are:
USC connection - does he leave to return to CA one day?
Recruiting - is he ready to hit the pavement and put up with that rotten part of college coaching?
NFL - he will stay and finish the season with the Jaguars, so what does that do to our recruiting this year?
18-20 year olds - he has been dealing with the millionaire players for some time, can he come down and handle the kids?
Let me know what you see in him that I am missing. Stay good dude.

I'm not cutting down DelRio but I'm wondering what is it that folks like about him moreso than the other college coaches? He doesn't have much if any experience in the college game. How does his pro experience prepare him for the differences and the take over of a major college program?
His inability to improve the Jags passing game significantly concerns me as well. They are 23rd now, 24th in '06, 19th in '05, 19th in '04. Did he honestly believe he was getting anything more than game managers with his last two QB's?
I know he wins in the NFL but a team can't afford to lose more than one and sniff the MNC most years in the college game.

Top ranked offenses and defenses every year. Top 3 recruiting class every year. SEC Champs every year, national champs every other year. When we arent in the NC game I expect a win in a BCS bowl. Minimum of three first round draft picks every year.

I'm on the bandwagon, but not like some others are. I'm just kinda going along with it.
I haven't watched that much of him in the NFL, but supposedly defense is a strong point for him.
As far as recruiting, we don't know that. But, he could turn out to be a dynamic recruiter over time.
As far as him leaving for USC, if that happens, it happens. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Waiting for him to be done with his season would be a concern with recruiting, but if he can hire a solid staff to pick it up, it'll be aight and he can pick up the slack when the season is done.
Oh well. I don't have any say in this hire so, whatever happens, happens.

Ooops. I just remembered something we all may have forgotten. This for me would be a deal breaker.
Del Rio hired Carl Smith as his offensive coordinator in 2004!!! How could any sentient being think Carl Smith could improve an offense??
Seriously, that's a major strike against his ability to evaluate and solve team needs.

I understand where you're coming from, and he may stink as a college coach.
I'd like a young college coach with some NFL experience. Dantonio is what I'm looking for but he doesn't have that NFL experience.
I know I'd rather live and die with JDR than have Saban back, I know that.

JDR with Crowton staying on board gives us the best coaching staff in the SEC IMO.

JDR is gaining steam fast...may not be in time though.

I definitely agree with this.
While JDR would be a great hire, the guy is in the middle of the NFL season and will be in the playoffs as well.
We won't be able to wait for him.

I'd rather Gruden, but I doubt that would happen. JDR would be a good hire though.

The Jags have been trying to become Cincinatti South over the last couple of years. Lots of off field issues. Before the Saints game, the Jags had two players Durant and Collier passed out in their car while at a Mickey D's and the other one on an exit ramp.
IMHO, I think we should look at the Jags OC, Dirk Koetter. Innovative offense, he recruited talent at ASU. He lost the team last year by going with Rudy Carpenter over Sam Keller.

I wonder if he'll get pressed on it at a news conference....if more steam picks up.

I've got to agree with a post above, when Petey C. leaves SoCal, JDR will be the first name mentioned...especially if he's dominating the SEC at the time.

His wife has ties here. He also played for the Saints for several years.
If you don't hire someone because you are afraid he'll leave if he's dominating the SEC, then you are making a big mistake, don't you think?

From all accounts I've heard LSU is his dream job. I heard he likes LA much better than Cali and USC would not be a factor.
