NCAA Score Board Operators

I was at two of the Denver 1st Round games yesterday, and was completely dumbfounded at how quickly the scores were updated when a point was made. You couldn't physically watch the ball go in and move your eyes to see the score change. I was convinced that there was possibly a rim sensor or SOMETHING. I can't establish a way that a sensor would know if it was a 2 or 3 point shot. Anyone have any insight into how this sorcery is performed?

I've wondered this before at Thunder games. It's freaky

I've seen that kind of thing happen in Greensboro. There's probably someone sitting there with their fingers on the "Score +2" and "Score +3" buttons, ready to press the appropriate one as soon as the shot goes in.

Correct. All the modern scoreboards have +1pt +2ps, & +3pt buttons for each team. That's the only item he controls in real-time. Someone else is handling the clock.

I managed to watch the big screen and score with periphs. I swear the score changed before the whole ball was through the rim. I wonder if they are quick to add the score and would rather correct it if it rolls out. There's gotta be at least 80% assumption that the ball is going in with how fast they are at adding the points.
