Possible No. 1 draft pick Ben Simmons of LSU has reportedly decided to hire LeBron James’s agent Rich Paul as he prepares for a pro career, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

The Australian forward averaged 19.2 points and 11.8 rebounds as a freshman for LSU, but was unable to lead the team to an NCAA tournament bid, with the Tigers declining an invite to play in the NIT.

Yahoo’s report claims that James and Paul began recruiting the prospect as a future client in 2014 when Simmons first attended the LeBron James Skills Academy, and that an agreement for him to join Klutch Sports has been in place for over a year.

Ben Simmons has drawn comparisons to LeBron James for his combination of size, ball-handling and passing.

And the LSU freshman will now reportedly sign with the Cleveland star's sports agency and agent, according to Yahoo Sports. The 6-foot-10 freshman phenom and probable No. 1 pick in this summer's NBA draft will hire Cleveland-based and James-funded Klutch Sports and be represented by James' friend and agent Rich Paul, the website reported.

"Simmons' older sister, Emily Bush, has been a marketing/branding employee of Klutch since 2014," Adrian Wojnarowksi wrote. "She is based in Scottsdale, Ariz. Her hiring came shortly after James and Paul started recruiting Simmons as a potential future client.

"Within the basketball industry, it has been understood that Klutch has been the only real pro representation that Simmons has considered. Simmons, a native of Australia, has been the subject of a serious courtship by James, Paul and Klutch Sports since attending the LeBron James Skills Academy in 2014."

The news broke late Sunday evening, a few hours after LSU's announcement it would not participate in any postseason tournament.

The last amount of dirt gets kicked over LSU's lifeless basketball corpse.

At this point, I choose to play the "who gives a frick" card.

Don't really care what Ben Simmons does at this point. He can take Quarterman with him if he likes. Leave Blakeney though...he actually is worth a shite and acts like he wants to be here.

Buddy hield should definitely be drafted before him, with buddy you have a leader and character on the court on top of beast shooting and ball handling

Good for him. He's about to get paiddddd.

I can't believe out of everything, people are upset that he's hired an agent.

Good deal, dudes about to make millions, glad we had chance to see him play at LSU, ben was always going to be a one and done player, he could have gone anywhere in the country but he chose the purple and gold, I hope he has a great career
People just need to get over this season and finally swallow the bitter pill, hopefully next year will be better, I'm actually rooting for Blakeney to stay and take over the team, he came on strong the back half of the season

The college basketball rule is shite. Why make them attend a university if they can go to the NBA after only one season?

Basketball should be similar to baseball. They should be able to go pro after high school. If they choose to attend a university they have to stay 3 years or 2 years if they reach 21 years of age prior to June 30th.

Start connecting the dots.. I believe that they informed LSU that he would not be playing in the NIT. LSU just got out in front of the issue and declined the bid.

People said he was uninterested at times, well this would explain where his head was at. They hired his sister in 2014 to work for the agency. This plan was in work for awhile now.

Makes me wonder if this deal has not been in the works for some time. It's quite possible that one reason we opted out of any post season play is because we would have used an ineligible player and had to forfeit any games we would have won. We still may be subject to an investigation.
We may all wish that we had never seen Ben Simmons in an LSU uniform.

Didn't just last week Jones say he was "hopeful" simmons would return?

I wonder if he was just trying to be PC or if he is truly that utterly clueless.
