My only major concern is that his offense haven't really developed under his tenure and he's repeatedly drafted offensive talent - Matt Jones, Reggie Williams, Byron Leftwich, David Garrard. They are solid, but very methodical and much more of a line up and smashmouth style than air it out style.
If he let the OC do his thing... perfect hire.

I think he may be more of a motivator than anything.

I see what you mean but Matt Jones and Reggie Williams were both drafted on potential because of their size and speed, and neither have developed the route running and other mental aspects to be big time recievers. Both of them should be considered busts, Jones was a reach were he was drafted, and Reggie was coming off a good year at Washington, but he was still raw.
Garrard and Leftwich were both hurt on and off the last few years, but Garrard has been on when healthy this year, still no picks, and their running game with Fred Taylor and MJD has been more than solid. And that defense is still imposing when everyone is healthy, which has been their downfall. JDR has done a very good job overall, I'm pumped at the thought of hiring him.

this is the dumbest post i have ever seen. seriously.
first, this class is about wrapped up, but you're always gonna have some type of hit during a coaching change.
But good God man, if he is your guy, no way in hell you let one frickin recruiting class stand in the way.
Plus, you'd have him for life. He has no other aspirations, LSU is his dream job and he has no desire to coach in the NFL, which is evident if he leaves a successful NFL job to coach LSU.
The ONLY guy I'd rather have than Del Rio, is Rich Rodriguez. But if it can't be him, gimmie Jack Del Rieaux ALL DAY LONG!

I thought JDR was just wishful thinking until I heard Bobby Hebert on WWL tonight. Remember Bobby H was his roommate while playing for the saints. Anyway BH said he knew JDR would love to be the HC for LSU!!!!

followed that up by being the head coach for the Jags and led them to multiple play off appearances.
If you mean one wildcard appearance that ended in an arse whipping, then you are correct.
Never won his own division, never recruited, never judged HS talent, never coached a HS player.
Sure he is a nice guy and fine coach, just alot of nevers to put him in charge of LSU.

Should we cheer against the jags for the rest of the season? will that help?

Yeah, I cant believe he loses to that one team...whats their name?
Oh, yeah! The Colts!

I know a friend of Del Rio's daughter (yeah, I know how it sounds). Cash was on the money about Skip not having the patience to wait for an interview for him. Supposedly he would have jumped at the chance to coach at LSU the last coaching search. He loves Louisiana (I believe he played or coached for the Saints). His wife also wants to move back to be closer to her family. I was pretty surprised he was interested the last search, but the draw of returning home for his wife and to be closer with his daughter (who I believe already graduated from LSU now) was pretty strong. Hell, just look what's going on with Les Miles now with Michigan. I'm not sure of his interest level now, all I can say is that in my opinion LSU dropped the ball the last search. I'm hoping for Del Rio now.

Plus he has no reason to come to college from teh NFL, he is doing ok.

So alot of guys spouting their opinion on how this is a non issue somehow addresses it? No addressing it would be him recruiting, not drafting players.

So would it make you feel better if we subbed it with LSU finishing second in their division and always saying,
"well we were second to Bama and they are really good (sub Auburn if you wish)" lets dont mention if GA, FL, or TN are having good runs too, so winning the SEC is out of the question?
Yeah it is tough to get in position to beat the Colts, but should they just not play? No he needs to have a team that can compete with and beat the Colts, he does not.

You are fricking stupid. The only team that has a chance of beating the Colts every year is the Patriots, who are coached by one of the best, if not the best, coaches ever.

i think he beat the Colts, while amassing over 300 yards rushing, last year...I think that's the year the Colts won the SB. Could be wrong though...

So second place is OK with you, that is cool. I mean if the other team is really really good.
Give me a break, these are pros, they get paid to WIN they have a payroll, they have similar facilities, they have the same shot at free agency, they have better draft picks.
Now that you have resorted to the witty comeback of name calling,
Better to be fricking stupid than to be a complacent second place apologist, how is the view from behind the winner?

Oh I'm sure he'd pretty much coordinate it with the DC working with him.
Like I said, so long as he let the OC do his thing, I'd be cool.

Yeah, he wouldnt do crap at LSU, where he would inherit one of the most talented teams in CFB. You are a dumbass if you think he would be a bad college coach. Your argument is complete shite, so go ahead and stop pushing it and embarrassing yourself.
