I've seen this movie a couple times and always enjoy it, but it's definitely been a while. I also haven't done any research on it or anything.
Is there any underlying meaning behind PB's love of music, and seemily odd music for his tastes? The guy is caught up in all this greed and consumerism, not to mention brutally killing people, but start talking about music and man he lights up and can go on for days.
Is it supposed to just be an odd quirk or is there some meaning there?

Funny tidbit
Some parts of the threesome scene had to be cut in order for the film to receive an "R" rating

I can't recall the rat and cheese scene from the book
Quick synopsis?

I looked it up because of that comment. To avoid spoilers if people actually care about that sort thing with this here is the link to the wiki page on rat torture. It's under the "in fiction" section.

I think the idea is to show how shallow he is. Everything he says about music sounds like a direct quote from a magazine. It isn't original thought. It's just a reflection of what he sees.

that makes perfect sense.

HEY PAAAAUUUAUAUUUUUUUL!!!
That's bone. And the lettering is something called Silian Rail.
Great movie. It's definitely weird as frick though, but hilarious in its own weird, dark way.

Yeah, he's the culmination of everything society tells us to be in order to be popular or successful. I think the movie is trying to show that if a person were to truly be all of the things we view as "good" qualities, we'd have a psycho on our hands.

We went to the new musical "Oh Africa, Brave Africa." It was a laugh riot.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that appreciates this line

I know, odd 5 year bump but I figured it was better than starting a new thread. Watching it right now, one of my top twenty movies and I didn't realize there was a book which I’ll be buying. The dog scene does get to me though.

Love this movie. Had it on a loop for 48 hours for my bachelor party. So many great moments.

The movie is a good, if extremely dark, comedy about a serial killer. They really play up the ridiculousness of everything.
The book is not funny, at all. It is very good, for what it is. Extremely well-written. In fact I would say that the book is "better" than the movie. But I would never recommend anyone else read it. It is one of the most nihilistic, misanthropic, disturbing books I've ever come across. There are scenes that will stick with you and make your skin crawl long, long after you finish it. If you're up for that - and I can't say anything because I read it, after all - then have at it. Just be aware going in that it is a million times darker than the movie, and where the movie makes you feel bad for laughing at the stuff Bateman does, the book is just going to make you feel bad.

One of my favorites of all time. The girl I was dating when we saw it was disturbed by the fact that I was cracking up the whole time at the dark comedy.
"But he threw a chainsaw. At a naked hooker. Running down the stairs! How is that NOT funny?!"

I remember when it came out, LSU played it in the Student Union theater. Went in thinking it was a horror movie and felt bad that I was laughing through most of it. I had to watch it again a few weeks later to see what the hell did I watch.

I love this movie. Got some of my favorite gifs of all time.

I absolutely love that movie. I think it’s a masterpiece but it’s definitely for a select audience. It is a very dark movie. It’s absurdity is humorous in points but it is also a scathing satire of capitalistic greed. It’s very well done.
Film nerds who like to break down everything and anyone in high pressure sales appreciate the movie.
The book on the other hand is just absolutely brutal.

The book is flat out disgusting. Film did a fantastic job of adapting some the characteristics without being too gross.
