The brown one, my wife (then my fiancé) rescued from a field (was doing environmental wetland delineation work). We already had the black one - I wanted to be a hardass and put my foot down "we cannot handle another puppy with wedding coming up, etc." Well, the brown one ended up having Parvo, vet gave her a 50/50 shot to live. My wife spent Memorial Day weekend 2012 watching her vomit, hardly eat, giving her IVs, finally very slowly pull through. Obviously there was no way we could ever give her away after that. And of course, it took her no time to get me wrapped around her finger.

Love dogs.
Had a friend have to put one to sleep the other day. Very sad.
They are just as much family as real family in my view.
Also, the person who took in the dog that had been mistreated. We did a similar thing a few years back.
She is the sweetest thing I've ever seen :)

The vet said 6-12 months but that it's just a guess. We're hoping it's on the long side of 12 months. Well get chest X-rays to check the progression every couple of months and once a couple of symptoms exhibit there are a couple of medications she'll go on. Other than that all we can do is spoil her.
A tumor presented on her ear last week and she was supposed to have surgery yesterday to remove it but the preliminary X-ray showed lesions on her lungs.
Like our last three giant schnauzers she's a rescue. We've been rescuing dogs in the breed for going on twenty years.

That is awesome about the rescues.
I'm not against folks buying whatever dog they like, but gosh, there's an abundance of fine dogs looking for a home.

Our two are inseparable. It's really amazing to see their pack mentality too. Whenever I get ready to take them for a walk, and my wife can't come along, they always keep looking back inside the house waiting for her to come out, like the excursion is incomplete without her... And they definitely see me as the leader, so when I'm out of town for night, they get really protective of my wife and bark at every noise coming from outside, so much so that she has to turn up the TV volume to be really loud when I'm not at home.

I'd like to catch up to the person that did this... Not sure what I would do to him/her but it would be REAL BAD... I just can't come to grips with someone doing this... Pisses me off just thinking about it.........

Looking good Will... Nice work.. But that third Pic has got to go.....
My two wiener dogs are just spoiled rotten. Brother and sister.. The girl is the sassy one and the boy is just a fat loverboy that is super protective, esp with a one year old grandbaby at the house... Brutus[the boy] barks at night when HE wants momma to fix the covers on the couch. Smart as shite......

We have a rescue German Shepherd/Lab mix. First rescue dog I've had and probably one of the best dogs I've ever been around. His litter was abandoned in the woods at about 4 weeks old. Only two survived.
We had just moved and we're staying in a tiny apartment waiting for our house to be finished. We stopped at the furniture store next to Petsmart in Lafayette, and they had dogs out front, so of course my wife had to go walk. She falls in love with this yellow lab, but I told her we're in a tiny arse apartment and when our house is done a month we'll get a dog. She seemed cool with that, but cried the whole way home thinking they were gonna kill the dog.
The next weekend, she wanted to go look at dogs again, and I wasn't about to make her cry again. It wasn't easy keeping a German Shepherd puppy incognito at the apartment those last three weeks.

Sorry, my wonky thumb was the unintentional down vote on your post.
