the NFL doesn't really worry about it and it works out well for them. I don't believe Richt had any experience before taking over at UGA. Would any of you really be that up in arms if we hired a young, hungry assistant? I'm not saying LSU is even considering this, but would it really be that terrible?

An assistant would have been a good move after Saban. I think now we gotta get a big name just to save face.
We kind of look like the hot chick everybody gets a bj from. We're looking for stability here.

I think it's the fear of another Archer, and the thought of turning over a championship caliber program to someone who hasn't been the head guy before.

But lets say option A turns us down. Would you rather a guy you're not completely in love just because he has some HC experience or an OC or DC who has had great success at a big time program or even in the NFL?

Bob Stoops was an assistant when OK plucked him off of Steve Spurrier's staff at Florida.

There is a reason why coaches like Parcells, Schottenhimer, and other head coaches have winning records wherever they go while coordinators flame out.

I think of Michigan as being the old broad that just lies there.

How does one coordinate an offense one has no input in?

I'm not even going to start to go through the list of College Coordinators that had ZERO D-I HC experience that took Major HC jobs and were successful, both from inside their program (Osborne for one/OC) and from outside their program (Bob Stoops for one/DC).

Just for starters.

What I keep wondering is WHY does not Mullen (OC/Florida, Play Caller (?), mentored under Urban) get consideration?

Does he not want to be a HC?

Just best friends with Urban??

Any Florida fans on here that know anything? Anyone?

Tressell came from I-AA Youngstown State I believe (did he take them to I-AA from II?).

Chizik looks good at ISU, too.

Seriously, ISU will be Gene Z.'s (TX-DC last year) stepping stone job but he makes the Big 12 North pretty funky if

KU can carry on,
Pinkel/Missouri don't fall back to 6-6,
Colorado keeps coming on (they are Bowl eligible)
KSU gets their act together

and of course

Nebraska with Bo hopefully. We have talent and schedule next year, believe it or not, to do as well or better than B. Stoops did at OU during his year 1 turnaround / NC Yr 2. It all depends on the horses up front on both sides of the ball really.

[edit - and it's also possible to go 7-5 or 6-6 sliding into a bowl too if we don't get some big pigs up front developed]

Every Head Coach was an assistant at one point in time. Remember that.
