re: What are you giving up for Lent?

I have 2 kids and a wife. I sacrifice most of what I have and do for them every day. I ain't giving up shite. I am catholic and I believe that lent fasting and penance is some of the stupidest shite ever thought up.
Are you a good person? Good, cause God likes you. You'll probably go to heaven because the made up rules are bullshite anyway. God (if he exists) wants us to be good to each other. That's it. If you believe you are going to hell because you didn't have a penance or ate a piece of bacon on a Friday during a certain time of year, you are sorely mistaken.

I love these. I'm not drinking......excceeeepppt for these two times where I can't be expected to be sober. Me and God talked it out and those two dates are cool.

It's called hedging your bets. No proof that he is there, but no proof that he isn't either. Christian rules are good ways to live life from the 30,000 foot view. Be good to each other. that's what I get from it.

Revenge porn and day drinking.

I'm bad about giving stuff up. So, I try to make 3 to 4 masses a week (Sunday + weekday mass; doing something extra rather than giving something up).

would suggest to my fellow Catholics (and all believers really) that we not focus so much on what we give up (I mean lets be real.....not eating meat in favor of eating 5 lbs of crawfish is a real sacrifice I know) but instead focus on what more we can do to bring ourselves closer to the Lord.
So we should give up two things? That's asking a lot.

Fair enough, but no one is going to hell because they ate a turkey sandwich on a Friday during Lent.
The whole point of the fasting/abstinence from meat is more symbolic in nature. Which is why earlier, I said giving up things for lent is for 5 year olds; as a way to teach them about making sacrifices.
