I see where he signed Florida St. I thought him having family in Louisiana was the main reason he wanted to come here.

Yep. I think he was committed to us at some point in his junior year. Gave us the ole Kain Daub treatment.

Yeah, that's pretty weird. I don't know if we cut ties with him before that, but I bet we definitely did after that.

Probably. We were officially out of it once Steele left. That was our best chance at getting him.

Steele basically recruited Joyner and a bunch of 2017 LBs in the state of Alabama and that's it. I bet Will Ignont goes to Auburn.

Well, they're like 3 years apart in age and from two different states a ways away from each other, so it doesn't really make me wonder.

He didnt. He never committed but he named LSU his leader several times. Chavis left and Steele spent about 95% of his recruiting efforts on Ben Davis and Mack Wilson.

Joyner is a strange kid though. He was the #1 player in the nation then he stopped going to camps, got kicked off his highschool team and kind of just disappeared. We slowed our efforts on him but I feel like he would have been worth a flier with our desperate need for LBers.

Joyner was basically given up on by every school and coach except the LB coach at FSU. There was an article with Joyner on 247 back in December where he said that wherever Lawing(the coach) went, Joyner would sign. Lawing stayed at FSU, so that's where Joyner went.

Joyner fell off the face of the earth over the last 6 months. At one point I'm pretty sure he was considered a Top 100 overall prospect (very high 4-star) on some sites and just for reference he ended up at #597 overall and a mid/high 3-star on 247.

There was a lot of talk in the end how many of his original offers really stood. I dont think we were really recruiting him the last few months. FSU might have only been the big name left he had.

Brad Lawling, his primary recruiter from
FSU used to coach at Havelock High where Joyner went. So he knew how rough that town went and stuck by him. That's why he chose FSU. Info wish LSU would have stayed on him though due to LB needs.
