Aren't most people immediately arrested for negligent homicide when something like this happens?

Not making excuses at all, at all, but I think you'd be shocked about some of the poor habits that can be formed. I see people knocking their jammedtraining weapons on every surface possible to dislodge and doing that is awful for habit forming. Saw one of those guys accidentally shoot the floor once because he was jammed and hitting the gun against the door.

I don't see why not.
Kill someone and just throw your arms up and say "whoops, sorry about that head shot. I'll be a little more careful next time." And be able to go free?
I think a fair argument can be made everyone who is responsible for the death of another person should be charged with some type of homicide.

#1 rule of weapons safety, assume the gun is ALWAYS LOADED until YOU personally check and clear it.
#2 rule - NEVER have the barrel pointed at something you arent willing to DESTROY
This is pretty simple to remember and apply.
So basically, even if the gun was fully loaded, it should of never been pointed at someone or laid out in the open in such a way where it could be pointed at someone. Only way it could of happened is if it dropped somehow and fired, because otherwise the gun should of never been pointed at the wife or allowed to be pointed at her. Loaded or not.
Then considering it was a cop, who should know these rules and practice it daily since he more than likely carries his gun every day

I'm not sure you realize what that world would look like. It'd be a cluster frick and a waste of time, energy, and resources, and tax payer money. It wouldn't affect the people you insinuate that you'd want charged (people commit heinous negligence)who can already be charged and there'd be plenty of innocent lives ruined.

were they having marital problems?

We have spent countless dollars creating and enforcing laws like seat belt usage and motorcycle helmet laws that are on the books to prevent loss of life.
An enforceable law that would criminalize deaths, such as this "accidental" gun cleaning shooting, lives could be saved.

I'd say that due to the accidental nature of these and the lack of intent, and the fickle nature of all people, I'd doubt any impact is made.
"Oh my, I don't want to go to jail today so I better not shoot my loving wife today when cleaning my gun." Sounds silly to me.

This guy just got off for anyone still curious about the incident. Grand jury didn't have enough evidence for a conviction

Guns, everyone should own them. Or at least the dumbest the world has to offer. Good god man.

Thus proving that guns do in fact kill. I rest my case. Thanks.

It literally sounds impossible to kill someone cleaning a gun. What in the frick part of cleaning a gun involves pointing it at a loved one and pulling the trigger? No part of breaking down a weapon involves pulling the trigger.

You put together a pretty terrible case. Don't rest it.

Trump will never win the Nomination! I hear that Rubio kid is gonna go far!
Posted on 5/11/16 at 7:04 pm to Gaston
Actually for a Glock you do have to pull the trigger to be able to remove the slide. He "forgot" wether he unloaded it or not.
Posted on 5/11/16 at 7:11 pm to KajunKouyon
Well my HK has no such step.
Posted on 5/11/16 at 7:16 pm to Gaston
Not all guns are like that. Glocks do require that step unfortunately
Posted on 5/11/16 at 7:20 pm to KajunKouyon
For that matter, the storage box that used to come with the Glocks required you to pull the trigger to put them in the box. They changed that after the fifth or sixth person got shot.
