the food however is a slam dunk. Typical sports bar fare but excellent. We had a duck quesadilla with mango salsa, dozen wings and a Cuban sandwich. The wings were very good, right in my wheelhouse (naked, not smothered in sauce). 9/10 on the wings. Sandwich was really good, quesadilla was tasty. Again, Sysco fries
[fries rant] it's not much harder to do fresh cut fries. cut, rinse, dry, blanch. When ordered, drop it in hot oil. Yes it's more trouble than a frozen bag but the results are 10x better and you can charge more [end fry rant]
So I'm currently at iron horse and apparently they don't have fries. Only "homemade chips". What gives?

God I hate when restaurants pull that shite.
GIVE US THE FRIZZLES!

Yeah, the food was a slam dunk just as cgrand said. I was puzzled by the chips though. Chips and wings?

I actually like the homemade chips. I told them they needed to make a blue cheese chip version as an appetizer.

what kind of chips...potato chips?
I had a few beers but I know a French fry when I see one
maybe they changed it up
Were they good?

Potato chips, almost like kettle cooked. They were alright but I'd still prefer fries as an option. I asked the waitress and she said they didn't have fries. Hopefully they reconsider

At least the staff will after they hear about it 1000 times. Whether the owner gives in is another story.

I've had enough Sysco frozen fries in my life
I'd rather the chips if they are good

round two at iron horse
place was packed and lively
serious upgrade in service staff talent, very nice
bacon/egg/cheese burger with chips
dozen wings
Mac and cheese
all very good, especially the burger
juicy, cooked perfectly medium rare, very tasty
chips were much better than the fries I had last time
60 bucks with tip
just a couple beers each, again not much to choose from but it was cold and promptly served
8/10, if they do some work on the beer menu this is a contender for best casual place in Hammond. I already like it better than Brady's

I still prefer fries
I'm a simpleton
Eta: I agree on all your other points though. I thought the place was awesome. The BBQ sauce I had on my wings was top notch

So tried Blackened Brew and Iron Horse yesterday, and they were night and day difference.
I'll start with Blackened Brew. The positives: inside was really nice looking and a lot of seating, the wings and fried pickles were both pretty good. We were a table of 5 and not one order came out correctly. It took us 20 minutes to get water, one guy had to order his Bloody Mary 3 times before she finally put it in the system, and the two of us who got burgers had them both severely over cooked. I tried to order both of the Tin Roofs on tap and both were out, which is fine, but the waitress decided to bring me out a random beer which was some dark stout, totally different from the two beers I originally wanted. It might be petty, but for a place that prides itself on beer the staff should know the difference between the types of beer they serve. Wasn't a good experience.
Iron Horse on the other hand was a great time. The inside was really cool with the score ticker and at least 20+ TVs. Place was pretty packed and our waitress did great job of getting us in and out in about 45 minutes. We tried the duck quesadilla and Cuban sandwich. I really liked the quesadilla and the mango salsa that came with it. The Cuban was okay, not the best, but still pretty good (the pork was actually really good). Needless to say I would go back again, especially for March Madness or some other big sporting day.

You should have went and shook the owners hand. That would have made things better.

Did you go to the tap takeover at RW&B
Posted on 2/21/16 at 1:45 pm to tduecen
I did not. Was it good? I used to love going to the rum and whiskey tastings there.
Posted on 2/21/16 at 1:52 pm to lionward2014
Nah I decided against going after yard work
Posted on 2/21/16 at 1:54 pm to tduecen
Still scared to shake hands bae?

90% of people don't wash their hands after going to the bathroom

I have twice experienced a waitstaff bring me a different beer from what I ordered because it was out. They assume because it is the same style that it would taste the same and I would not realize it. To me that is unforgivable.
