Yes...?
It's never crossed my mind that Pantera were "white power" or, for frick's sake...NAZI.

Anselmo has always thought that he was bigger than Pantera and what he is. He's not even that great IMO he just hit some cool notes in Cemetary Gates that he can't replicate live half of the time.

Anselmo has always been a redneck
That said, I don't give a shite and Down fricking rocks......

he blew his vocal cords after that record, which is why he can't hit that shite anymore. I have always liked Pantera while hating Anselmo. I have never had the impression that he was liberal or anti-racist (though I'm not sure what one has to do with the other).

Why the hell do you think there would be a half empty show? You seriously think anyone that was already intending on going gives a frick?

Vinnie and Dime are white trash Texas rednecks. Phil is a good ol baw from New Orleans. Why would anyone think they were liberal?
I've followed Phil's career for about 25 years now. He has said and done many stupid things over the years. Its part of his charm. I don't believe he's racist. He has plenty of black fans and friends.

Why would anyone think they weren't? They were certainly anti-establishment.

A number of musicians and entertainers are fricked up individuals with warped political, sexual, social, and economic views.

Yelling "White Power" "Black Power" "Mexican Power" etc. should not upset anyone really we all need more power, I look at people's actions more than their words Phil is not a bad guy.

Debateable, but there's no putting a happy face on a nazi salute.

Rob Flynn was mad because Phil told him he hated their "n-----" albums. Even Machinehead fans have to admit those two albums were complete garbage. He's mad that he tried to sellout and failed while Phil stayed true to himself and continued to have success.

censorship is not the answer
Not sure I'd consider this "censorship." The venue presumably makes tons of decisions all year based on what types of acts they want in there under their marquee. They have a brand and an aesthetic to protect. They generally don't book new money country acts either. It doesn't fit their brand.
This isn't CNN or a major newspaper making a media coverage decision. This is a music venue in 2016 not wanting a guy screaming white power standing on its stage. I don't see this as a slippery slope. In fact it's kind of a non-brainer.

Yeah, and he admitted phil said that to him before he went on stage.
Yet, he went out there and played a song with him. If he were true to his convictions..seems as if he wouldn't have joined him. But, IMO he wanted to look like he belonged with the fellow musicians on stage.
Then makes a 10+ minute rant, to get people talking about him..using Phil. Hope people can see through his bullshite.

And btw Phil released this statement
quote:
To all this will concern,
Every citizen in this entire world has the unalienable right to live with dignity and respect without hate or oppression. And I mean this, with all of my crushed, yet, guilty heart.
It’s common knowledge that we can choose to either learn from our mistakes, or continue on a path of insensitivity and destruction.
I am utterly responsible for the mistakes I have made, and can only give you my word to no longer do them in the present, through ACTION, not just mere words.
My band mates are now experiencing the consequences of my behavior, and I now publicly apologize to them as well. Never in my entire lifetime would I drag them down with me, and I’ve privately suggested to them that they move on without me.
My biggest obstacle(s) are the over-indulging in the booze and blurting out spiteful, ignorant reductions of the human spirit itself. I will address these issues, head-on.
I’m repulsed by my own actions, and the self-loathing I’m going through right now is justified by the hurt I’ve caused.
I realize we live in a society where apologies are NOT accepted easily, yet long for a day when they can be, but I also understand if I’m shunned till I hit the dirt.
From the bottom of my heart, and with all sincerity, I once again am truly sorry for the pain I have caused.
With truth, love, hope & respect-
Philip H. Anselmo
