Was offered a position in Lafayette and strongly considering taking it.
What are the best places to live in the area?

I think North Laffy is the hood.
I'd do it. I love Lafayette.

Age? Married or single? Kids? Income? All these factors make a difference.
FWIW I worked in Lafayette for a couple years and chose to commute from BR rather than live there.

If you can hold off a few months a lot of houses will start getting foreclosed on and you can get a steal in a nice hood.

Don't move to North Lafayette (north of the Evangeline thruway)

South Lafayette in general. Some good neighborhoods are Fernewood (higher priced homes) and Johnston St / Brentwood Blvd area (lower priced homes). There are plenty of others, just depends on whether you want new construction, etc.

Do you enjoy living in a provincial community where people are always up in your business?

Anywhere but the Northside of Lafayette.

Pros:
Close drive to BR and NO without actually having to live there.
Good Food.
Fun Festivals.
Traffic is not bad.
Cons:
No major sports teams.

The SO is almost making six figures.
You could afford Fernewood. People will tell you River Ranch but the prices are inflated. Stay away in my opinion.....

I live in Youngsville. Can't complain.

The traffic is worse in Lafayette than New Orleans unless you're an Nola interstate commuter.
Getting anywhere on Ambassador at pretty much any time is hell.

I guess you've never tried to get anywhere on one of Lafayette's only 4 roads at 5 o'clock.
