Caldwell can coach an elite team given the talent. Her success here early on was due to talent left by the previous staff. That isn't to say she shouldnt get credit because she does deserve it! What we saw last year and this year is now with her system and her players and its in a very bad direction. Its alarming that in her time here that she can't recruit a top class. Thats why I wouldn't care if we canned her now.

If she was bringing in some good classes or had a great class coming in after this season, I'd give her the benefit of the doubt and give her next year. The issue is, we have a mediocre class coming in. And we are relying on inexperienced transfers.

Now this^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ is the truth.

Anyone have a link to recruits and transfers coming in?

I have waited years for another talented big and have been disappointed. After watching WB for years, the excitement sadly seems to have disappeared this year and hoping for a revival in recruiting, or in coaching.

I am just confused where she is going wrong? She seemed to be very well liked around the country by a lot of coaches. She worked hard and could relate to people, coming from lots of elite coaches.
Yet here, its coming across the complete opposite. I would seriously pay to be present during a recruiting visit, because there is no way for a recruit not to be somewhat intrigued or impressed with us. To me this is all a reflection on her and her staff.

Hopefully Deemer gets back soon cuz we will need her down the stretch, don't know if we can win anymore

Here is info on the transfers who are here this year, sitting out and waiting to play next year.

--Chloe Jackson 5'9 guard who spent 1 season at NC State. She only played in 4 games there. Not sure why she left. She was recruited to come here and sit out a year and be the replacement for Ballard, who would have been a senior this year.

From lsusports.net:

quote:

Jackson, a native of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was named the Washington Post’s Girls Basketball Player of the Year and garnered Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) High School All-America Honorable Mention at Riverdale Baptist. She averaged 17.3 points per game and was ranked the 19th best guard in the Class of 2014 by ESPN.

--Tatum Neubert 6'2 forward who spent 1 year at Oregon. Played 23 games and averaged 3 points and 2 rebounds. She left Oregon because there was a coaching change. Her coach for one year at Oregon was legendary men's coach Paul Westhead She figures to be a player much like Theresa Plaisance...tall who can play inside and pop out and shoot the 3 and who will be good in the transition game that LSU likes to play. Was ranked 53rd best recruit at her position.

quote:

Neubert, a native of Elizabeth, Colorado, was a McDonalds High School All-America nominee and a Colorado Class 4A All-State First-Team pick after she posted 22.7 points per game during her senior season at Elizabeth High School. She was a three-time conference Player of the Year recipient and three-time all-conference first-team selection.

How do you think the girls feel when you write things like your last sentence, think positive! Give credit! Be a all the way through thick and thin times, in all LSU sports.

You know the rules of the Rant. Pretty automatic.

Rule #1: do not talk about down votes
Rule #2: DO NOT TALK ABOUT DOWNVOTES.

I'm down voting myself .

Thanks grad and this hit the spot. Wonder how many other readers have had knowledge of this? They have a couple of real big's coming in along with the 6'2" transfer and PG. Looks like a formidable group to me. Were they not ranked as I read this entire thread and happy it appeared? Are the big's potentially SEC ready or need considerable work, in your opinion?

With all the injuries and personnel movement, hopefully this team can get healthy and make a run in the later part of the season. With hope for a brighter future, enthusiasm can be revived. I truly love ladies sports as I follow many like gymnastics and can't wait for softball, as these continue to step up a notch. Ladies tennis is stepping up as men's golf did last year. Similar to football this year where the QB play was not exactly heralded, perhaps 1 or 2 dominant players with the existing mix could make this a different team.

I will always appreciate these young ladies pouring their hearts out, win or lose, representing LSU as it's tough when injuries dull a season.

We will definitely see improvement, although I don't think we will be improved to the point of being in top part of the pack in the SEC. None were considered top recruits, doesn't mean they can't be good here. We have a lot of work cut out with lots of new faces again as well.

I honestly don't follow recruiting at all...all I know is what I cut and pasted above.

I would hope that 1 of the 2 6'5 kids coming in as freshmen could help...for Nikki's sake I hope they are not "projects" that take a while to develop. Fareo on this year's team unfortunately ended up being a "project" that will ultimately get a failing mark.

Alexis Hyder on this year's team has proven to be a very good player. She is 5'11, but has been a monster on the offensive boards and she has great footwork underneath the basket when trying to create a shot. She can dribble the ball upcourt vs. the press and has a decent midrange shot. She will be a factor on next year's team.

I have been trying to tell anyone who would listen that next year's roster could prove to be her best in 6 seasons IF everyone is healthy and nobody flakes out and goes to modeling school, etc. And they will be young with a chance to stay together for a couple years and get better.

Starting 5 could look like this:

PG Chloe Jackson 5'9 Sophomore
G Raigyne Moncrief 5'10 Junior
F Tatum Neubert 6'2 Sophomore
F Ayana Mitchell 6'2 Freshman

If they want to go with 3 guards, Rina Hill as a senior will get a lot of minutes, I am sure.

If they want a bigger lineup, senior Alexis Hyder will also get a lot of minutes.

Then Jenna Deemer can return to her role as sharpshooter off the bench and Jasmine Rhodes and Shanice Norton can be backup guards who gained valuable experience and minutes this year, and the 3 freshmen adding more backup.

I like the potential of next year's team. I can see the future being bright even if the over-reactionary Rantards can't.

And if next year collapses like this year, then change is needed...

Thanks Bait and Grad as your responses are appreciated. It would be nice to get more information on the recruits as mentioned as someone on this thread likely has an opinion, or some stats.

Here's the reports on each of next year's incoming freshmen............

Faustine Aifuwa

Jaelyn Richard-Harris

Yasmine Bidikuindila

When I'd read about these players a couple of months ago, they all sound like they'll need some work before they're ready to fully compete in the SEC. But, that doesn't mean they won't contribute next season. I just don't expect any of them to get a whole lot of playing time their freshman seasons.

Nikki is a HORRIBLE coach!! She should be fired ASAP. We need to try and hire one of Geno's assistants at UConn at the end of the season!

No......................actually we don't. There's no guarantee that they'll be any good since they'll all be first time head coaches.............except for Chris Dailey.

Thanks Alum. Faustine had the most commentary and sounds interesting for a 6'5" with good footwork and running the court.

Geno could have 3 people he found from the street corner as his assistants and UCONN would be fine. I'm sure his assistants learn something but they're far from the straw that stirs the drink.

Exactly! If that weren't the case then shouldn't we expect one of Pat Summit's assistants to bring us a championship?.........................Which is what Nikki is. She was on the bench as an assistant for UT's last three NCAA championships. The bottom line being, you don't necessarily want a championship level coach's assistants. You just want a good coach..............period.
