My wife wants a new car. The budget is around $30-$35k.

Fully loaded charger SXT or decent optioned RT if she wants a v8.
Chrysler 300c
The Chevy Impala LT can be had for that price but you might consider it full sized
The Chevy Malibu LTZ(fully loaded for right at 32

Charger is awesome.
Impalas are nice, too.

They are all pretty good. I travel for work and rent mid sized cars regularly so I have my preferences.
The Camry was new for 2014 or 2015 and it's pretty good. The Nissan Altima and Chevy Malibu have both redesigned for this year and they both appear to be very good vehicles.
I like the new Chrysler 200 because it's comfortable and seems to be well designed.....but I'm not sure I'd buy a Chrysler. Ford also seems to have a decent car in the Fusion, but again I'm less trusting of a Ford long term.
Going slightly larger...the new Impala is really nice and pleasant to drive.
My least favorite is probably the Ford Taurus. It's a huge, poorly built car with poor visibility and a cramped interior. The smaller Fusion is much better.
For the record I own a Honda Accord, which I think is the best in the class. I think the only other one I'd consider buying is the new Chevy Impala or maybe the new Nissan Maxima.

New Maximas are pretty legit.

Can't go wrong with either the accord or camry. Might come in under budget depending if she wants the V6 and/or nav.

I love how I mention charger and impala and get 4 down votes. The other 2 people who mentioned the same vehicles get nothing but upvotes

I agree. For the OP's price range, I'd skip the Altima/Camry/Malibu and try the new Maxima, Avalon, and new Impala. Maybe consider the Buick LaCrosse as well if they are on sale.

I've had 3 Camrys over the past 20 years and highly recommend that model.

bookmarked...should be in that category by end of the year

For the lower end of your budget, I'd consider the new Altima, Accord, and maybe the new Malibu turbo.
For the upper end....the new Impala and new Maxima are both excellent.
I don't know much about them, but the Acura TLX looks nice as well and might be worth considering.

New CRVs are nice. I know you mentioned wanting a sedan but the compact SUV is basically a sedan that's higher off the ground.

I looked at a '12 VW CC for my stepdaughter a couple of months ago and really, really liked it but she decided she wanted an SUV.
