re: Plants that don't require you to shave your face

Best way to become an operator is make connections. Degrees are worthless IMO. If it's you're only "in" then go for it, but I wouldn't be overly optimistic about it. Most people don't jump right into operations either. I was doing something completely different than plant life before I started doing what I do now (dock operator). I'm just biding my time until I get enough relevant experience to make the transition to process or chemical operator.

I think you all seem to forget I went to Louisiana Tech to get my Bachelors degree.

If you really have a BS in physics and masters in engineering I would think you could find a better job than plant operator
No matter what schools the degrees came from

But there lies the problem. I don't know how to make the right connections. I want to take a more proactive approach than online applications.

Louisiana Tech BS Physics. I decided I didn't want an academic or pure research career so I came to SU. I had other options, but I wanted the HBCU experience.

Why would you need to shave? Religious discrimination?
Posted on 1/24/16 at 7:48 am to volod
My job requires me to go in and out of several plants a day. The rule used to be clean shaved. One day I quit shaving grew my beard back and no one said a thing. One day the instrumentation engineer at one plant said "oh you grew a beard!" I asked if it was a problem. He said "not really. There's like 40 guys in here and 3 respirators. If something bad happens don't think you're getting one." The other plants said it got bad with deliveries. They would tell drivers they had to shave and the drivers would just leave and wait for them to call them back. I only know one plant that requires it.

Personally I would stay clean shaven despite if it was required.
I like my goatee, but I can live without it for a stable job.

Solicit blowjobs to the plant managers. It's the only way for someone from Southern to have a shot.

I shaved before dealing with a vented lithium battery in m/lwd tools. But you have hours before they get to the tools because they have to pull and rack back all the drill pipe.
Lithium gas can make you pretty sick. I didn't want to deal with that so I always followed SOP and cleared everyone off the floor.

I've had a cactus for a couple years now. Very easy to keep alive and has never complained about my beard.

If you can't go to college, go to Tech!

I used to go in a few for deliveries before getting promoted last year. Conoco-Phillips going towards Venice makes you shave no matter what, same with cornerstone chemical.
Do can care less

I'm selling realistic fake beards for you clean-shaven rebels.

You want in operations or maintenance?
You're not going to find a place that will let their operators have a beard. There are some that let maintainence.

Oh they have a job, but the wages haven't kept up with inflation. Also, the companies no longer have a pension plan to let you easily retire at 55. I guess I'll just keep my money in a low risk savings account that gets 6% interest without managing it. Oh wait, that doesn't exist anymore.
Also, if you're going to have $100k or more in student loans your degree better have a "D" somewhere in the initials.

Who here works at one? And which one is it? FTR, I'm jealous and want your job. I need to know where I should apply next.
And yes, I'm basing my future job decision off of a shaving requirement. That's what us plant baws get to do
