Gating canals in houma area

Im reading that people are starting to gate of canals around the houma marsh, places like 70 mile and orange grove may soon be off limits. Has anyone heard that?

There are a lot of gated canals in the spillway. I guess no different than high fence for deer

Id say its a bit different. Tax dollars are used to keep up the marsh.

Insert navigable water rule.... Which I Support.

Thank the bass holes in glitter boats. I have heard the same. I know they were giving tickets out recently. Guys sick of bass holes running thru their leases during duck season and tearing up marsh.

I heard this as well - I actually have a lease in the area ...!" Recently there's been a lot of arguing between the bass fisherman and the land owners - basically they were giving them the canals and the bass fisherman kept insisting on going in the marsh - now they won't have anything

I looked at the offlimit area for the Children's Hospital tourney to be held in March out of Stevensville. Because of the controversy they have made all of Bayou Black off limits. Basically anything south of Intercoastal is a no go.

All the canals I fished as a kid in larose are now gated off. If this happens in Houma it will suck. But ppl need to stay out of the marsh during duck season. That's common sense

This is why I carry bolt cutters.

Agree. It's only going to take someone deciding to do it. Louisiana law today allows it, it's just a matter of if the law is enforced.

Never underestimate the level of knucklehead in people. This is usually what pushes the "landowner" to enforce the law on the books.

Same here. After hitting a cable some asshat strung across a canal in PAC I am no longer interested in entertaining the debate. I'll take the trespassing charge, I don't really give a shite.

Dude, normally I would agree and fully support land owners rights to gate off whatever they own. The problem is damage that is being done to the marsh is a far bigger problem than the duck dynasty crowd can handle on their own. ZERO tax dollars are being spent to stop erosion and restore my property that is being lost to the amite river. However, hundreds of millions of dollars of tax payer money is spent every single year to help stop land loss in the marsh. If I'm paying for it, I'm using it. I don't really give a shite about your duck lease.
Another thing, go run around PAC and have a look at the fricking trash and destroyed marsh grass from duck hunters. Big pieces of lumber floating around, ice bags everywhere, mud holes that use to be marsh grass from people pulling the bro drives up on the land. It seems like this year is much much worse than it was last year because of the high water. It's a racket. I mean, why do we even bother?
I vote we let that shite erode. I'll go redfishing in Donaldsonville.
Stay out of the marsh during duck season, frick you. That is the attitude that got us in this mess in the first place. Duck hunters in Louisiana are like the Westboro baptist Church of the hunting world.

frick you
Don't lump all duck hunters in with the bad apples that will be over it in a couple years when something else becomes popular.
Trespassers are scum

You can do what you want. But now that duck season is over, I'll be in the marsh hitting the reds and bass. At least I won't get shot at.
I used to love fishing in Delta Farms and the Dixie illegally. I have had some phenomenal fishing trips. When it's a few miles from the house growing up, we would make a few trips a week!

Thinks people who shoot nuisance wild dogs on their own private property are classless, but will cut locks and trespass on others property to fish. Noted.

The marsh trespassers are the most logic challenged of all outdoorsmen.

The unique law that is considering this to be trespassing is logic challenged. No other state in the union has such a thing, it's dumb and self serving.

Without tax payer support the marsh will not exist in a couple of years anyway.
