Would you ever make a reservation at a bar? Some of the high bars have made a point of no reservations as a sort of bragging. It seems odd but I guess I can see it if you want to guarantee a table.

They just don't want to encourage large parties?

Has to be a PITA to have a table for 20 in a bar. And the server may bust their arse and get screwed

I've been trying to make a reservation at Reggie's forever but they're always full.

For a special section and large party/gathering (office party, birthday party)? Sure.

Otherwise, no.

At Ole Miss, we are southern gentlemen, we usually reserve tables at bars.

Like, in bigger cities, it seems the norm. I just thought it was surprising. I was visiting a friend and she said, "well, I made reservations for us to go out after dinner." I was surprised but she didn't blink an eye. She said that the chance of getting into any place worth going that isn't a dive bar or sports bar went down tremendously.

If I went to a bar and it was packed, I'd just go to another bar or drink at home.

There's a bunch of mixology type bars in NYC that do this to discourage people from people standing and overcrowding the bar. Its kinda nice actually. You actually can have a conversation with the person you're drinking with.

Clubs always accommodate my entourage and I. They always offer us complementary VIP the moment we walk in.

Well sure, those robes and pointy hats take up a lot of room. In your case its just common courtesy.

I don't need a table at a bar. I can hold a 16 oz pint glass without the need for a rest.

Sometimes. I did last weekend so 6 of us could have a table.
